Yesterday I bought a Pioneer Elite series DV-F07 DVD changer. Holds 300 + 1 Discs, and can be connected to computer, or just keyboard, mouse and monitor. A second unit can be slaved to it, to give a 600-disk capacity. Classic Elite design with the shiny black "uruqi" finish (spelling?) and wooden end panels, which nicely match my X-1 Laserdisc player.
The suggested MSRP for this was $1250, although I think it has dropped to $1100 or so, according to some websites. It appears to be still available, and several sites claim it is the "best ever" multi-disc changer; maybe not, but I guess it isn't bad. "Elite" series gear usually isn't bad. Appears to be a great core piece for a home-theater set-up; it will certainly be an upgrade for my HT set-up.
I paid $12.50 for mine -- yep! Just about ONE PERCENT of the original/recent MSRP! The price I paid is well below the usual wholesale price for these here, let alone used retail. I think I got lucky.
The reason I don't claim a definite "score" yet is that the one I have has motor-drive issues and will need some repair before I can use it. I think the motor actually works, but the board that controls/drives it has issues. I haven't really dug into it yet, but that is my suspicion. So far everything else seems to work. I have my fingers crossed that it should be repairable. Parts and even many accessories for this model are still available. I'll look for a service manual (anyone have one?), and if necessary, perhaps even let the local Pioneer techs repair it for me. Given how little I paid for it, I can justify spending a bit to get it working. :D
If I can't get it working, then I spent my lunch money on a doorstop.
Anyone else have/use this unit? Any exprerience with repairing them? Did I do well?
