Looking for opinons on the Sony CDP-707ES. I have a friend that is thinking of parting with his and I'm considering it the main source for my vintage gear.
Anyone here running one of these?

I have one and Mark B has one also. They are nice machines. I wouldn't buy one unless you can get it real cheap. When the laser dies unless you find a donor unit that's it.......lights out. Donor units aren't cheap either. I just hang on to mine because I like it. I have another "main" cd player that I use and only use it sparingly.
Go to the vintage knob and read about it if you like.
http://www.thevintageknob.org/index.html Axel has gathered information on the Sony ES models and it's well worth reading.

Mike, thanks for the response and I'm very familar with Axels site, but I did not see anything on the pre X 707 ES. If I go for this unit, I was planning to get some use out of it, what would I expect to pay for a parts unit for spares and how often to they come up?

If I am not mistaken the CDP-707ES(D) was a CDP-557ES in the other parts of the world. :)
