I saw these Infinity Column ll's on E-bay 2days ago (gone now) E-bay number 120167486537 .
I was in Monsey, N.Y. at my sister's wedding, and Stoney Point was real close. "course, the Pathfinder was pretty well loaded for the trip from Atlanta with wifemate aboard, so there probably wasn't much room....but it looked inviting!!
Are these one of Infinity's better efforts..or at least middle of the line quality ??

No, you did not goof. Wife would ahve not looked kindly on long trip back with big speakers. Read this colum and search the "Net" for Infinity info. Figure out where you want to start. Lots of choices. Lots of seeming overlap in model numbers and series.
Some are real hard to drive well, some not. When driven well, they all sound pretty good to downright amazing. Most large Infinity's will load your amp pretty hard. Some beforehand knowledge will help when looking for models you might want :)

The Column II's were supposed to be some pretty good speakers that were sold in the early '70's. MSRP was around $1500/pair. They are pretty large (about 40" tall), and feature 2 10-inch woofers (one down-firing), a 4.5" cone midrange, and 2 tweeters (one rear-firing). I would imagine bass performance was pretty good, and the rear-firing tweeter would enhance soundstaging. These look to be one of the last models made before Infinity introduced the EMIT tweeter.
I have no experience with these, but I'd be reasonably certain that they will sound pretty good. If a pair came up local to me at a fair price, I'd probably get them if for no other reason than to hear how pre-EMIT Infinity's sounded.
