But what is the difference when using the 4ohm taps versus the 8ohm taps on an amp? I don't want to damage any speakers that I have and I've heard that one can use either tap and then decide which sounds better but that doesn't make sense to me, but then neither does life!:scratch2: Help!.......R1

The amplifier is expecting to see a 4-ohm load on the 4-ohm taps, and an 8-ohm load on the 8-ohm taps. The amount of power the amp can put into either set is different, based on the expected resistance load.

It is best to match your speaker load to the proper "taps" on your amp. Putting too much of a load on the amp (4 ohm speakers->8 ohm tap) can release the magic smoke. :smoke:

What you've been told will probably work but most speakers are rated at an 8 ohm load. You don't rev your engine to go downhill, do you?
