I have a question about a Stromberg Carlson tube radio that I saw in a store. It came from a console of some sort which is long gone. I couldn't find a model on it nor could I take a pic of it. The only number on it I saw was 105490. It had 6V6GT output tubes. It appeared to be mono.

The tuner had three dials to it. One was FM1 (with low numbers), then FM2 (with higher numbers), and standard modulation.

Questions:
1) why two FM dials?
2) is the standard modulation the AM part?
3) is it worth picking up for $35? It has a lot of paper caps that will need replacing and I am not sure if that is the only problem.

Having both FM bands means it is from 1946 or 1947. The old (40 MHz) FM band went off the air in 1948. Model 1121 or 1135, maybe - or the 1210, which had three separate dials. Without a cabinet, I'd pass at that price- I paid $10 for an 1121 chassis for parts.

Looks like I have a little to learn about FM history. I just figured FM was FM. Due to the amount of caps that would need replacing, I figured I would pass on it unless it was something worth getting. I really like the looks of it, so it would be neat to have. But I think time and cost alone would be prohibitive.

Did a little looking and it isn't a 1121. Couldn't find a pic of the others. I will see if I can get a pic, just out of curiosity. Thanks.
