This dude describes installing Vishay Roederstein caps on the main ps caps....Would anyone know what spec to install?

Don't have an exact answer to your question but I have used Dayton poly
.22uf 250v NP across the PS caps on a couple of units and like the difference I hear.
Cleans it up and adds some quickness and improves imaging.
Have found an older post by EW a while ago where he explained it but I don't know on what forum to find it now.
Better caps may even work better.
Worth the effort to try.

That is my auction. Both JBLMar and Dr*Audio were proponents of that upgrade, so I performed it. I think it sounds great!

Here is what Dr*Audio had to say after he did this "upgrade" to his unit: "The original sound of the 9090 (to my ears anyway) had flabby, uncontrolled bass and not enough midrange and highs. Now the bass is better controlled and the sound is more even over the whole audio range. Flat, in other words, instead of exagerated bass." and "What the poly caps do is provide a lower impedance over the mid to high frequencies than the electrolytic caps alone would. This gives a much quieter, stiffer supply at all frequencies, giving you lower distortion."

Going back over the schematics for other units I own such as the AU-11000a and AU-919, I see that caps are already there in this configuration. Apparently the technicians became aware of this trick and started adding the caps in the higher end models.

So, I took my units and started adding them in myself after testing it out first on my 9090. Added them to a G-6700, this 881, a BA-90, AU-7700, and others. I would have to agree with them that it does make the unit sound better. If one was a purist, they could be clipped out of the unit super easy.

Thanks. I am really trying to whittle my collection down to just a few pieces in preparation for a move.

It's sad to see them go!

Are you going to try out the caps on your 881?
