Looking for In The Court Of The Crimson King MFSL NM.

possibly a non-MFSL, but it's gotta be true NM.

Name your trade. I just picked up #600 more LP's yesterday and am in the processes of VPI cleaning. Also have 25 or so duplicate CD's. Here's some:

Neil Young / Unplugged
Sting / all this time
Sheryl Crow / Tuesday Night Music Club
Sheryl Crow / The Globe Sessions
Janis Joplin / I Got Dem Old Cosmic Blues Again Mama!
Doors / The Best of The Doors (2 disc)
Yes / Close To The Edge
Bob Dylan / Rolling Thunder Revue (2 disc)
Norah Jones / come away with me
10,000 Maniacs / Mtv Unplugged
The Doobie Brothers / Minute By Minute
Renaissance / Tales of 1001 Nights
Pretenders / Last of the Pretenders
Chumbawamba / Tubthumper (I'll pay you to get this one out of my house)
Swing Out Sister / Live
Neil Young / Live At Massey Hall
Rod Stewart / Unplugged
Rolling Stones / Steel Wheels
lots more

I'm not expecting a 1:1 trade, obviously. I'm thinking multiple CD's or vinyl for the KC.
Say something like 7,8,9 : 1.

I've got a solidly VG copy (not MFSL) that I doubt you'd be interested in and I doubt I'd get off. I'll keep my eyes open for you, though. The standard pressing isn't terribly rare.

Thanks anyway, though. I appreciate it. All this work, I gotta hold out for a M-, NM. No, std copies aren't that rare but NM, M- are. Last week I thought I hit the Jackpot with an MFSL auction I won (advertised as NM). It was so scatched it was unplayable. Seller has taken it back supposedly. Waiting for the Paypal credit now. So I turned to AK, knowing I could count on a level of honesty & trust. Which you just proved. Thanks again.

My local record store has a Crimson "Court" with a price of about $40 on it however, the record is behind the counter and I haven't looked at it. I don't think it's an MFSL but it's got to be something special because they rarely put the actual vinyl behind the counter. I'll take a look next time I'm in there and get back to you.

This one appears about every other week at my LP shop. If I see an NM, it is yours. If you snag one in the meantime, I'll just add it to my collection.

I got to my shop every Friday, so I will check tomorrow.

I bought a standard vinyl new, back in the '70's. It hasn't been played more than 10 times, if that. I replaced it on CD, I'll check and see if I still have the vinyl. If I do, it's near mint.

Well, it turns out I do not have the CD as I thought, but I do have the LP. It is in near mint condition as far as no scratches, fingerprints or groove damage. It has a 1/16" warp (manufacturing defect, not from storage, my lps are all stored vertically.) I just copied it onto my hard drive to make a CD of it. I heard some distortion on it and I can't decide if that was because it was recorded poorly, or if it's a lousy pressing, which there were a lot of in the 1970's. I haven't heard a CD of this album so I have nothing to compare it with. I could send you an mp3 of one track and see what you think. PM me if interested.

Wow! Could be a great find. $40's an odd price. Please do check it out and let me know what it is. Seems too high for a used std. copy (unless in actual NM shape), and too low for an MFSL (unless it's not NM).

Great! You'd be amazed at what a VPI RCM does to bargin records. My experience at shops is their $2.99 -$14.99 rescords are really the $1 records with a concillatory alchohol wipe off. Still worth the $15 range to me if it's NM. Many thanks.

If I remember correctly it is a UK import in very good condition. I'm a Crimson fan so I always look in the bin but since I already have a VG+ US copy I haven't actually looked at the vinyl. I bought my copy from them for $8 and they rarely mark anything above $10 so it must be something good/rare.

Heres a cool site, maybe you already know it. Wish I had every one of them. Good project I guess. http://www.elephant-talk.com/discog/fripp/indexb.html

BTW, this morning I won a NM MFSL Lark's. We'll see.

My shop's average price is $4.00 for most LPs. First pressings usually go for $15.00 if in excellent shape. Mint/unplayed is $5 to $10. Led Zep IV unplayed goes for $5, while a VG+ IV with "Porky" in the deadwax is $7. Try getting that on eBay.

I'm heading there for "lunch."

Ahh yes, the old ET site. I remember hanging out there in the old mailing list days, I bet there's a few posts of mine in the archives somewhere. I still have the discography page bookmarked, at one time I was going to try and find all of the vinyl issues released but I got sidetracked once I realized there were 100's of jazz albums that I needed to own.

I stopped by the store today and they had already sold the record. It was a pink rim UK Island pressing in decent shape. The owner said if it was NM it would've cost a bunch more. Now they're sitting on a bunch of EG half speed Crimson but from what I've read they are sonically behind the UK Island, US Atlantic and MFSL pressings.

Good luck with your search, sorry I couldn't help.

I've been looking for it forever (in LP of course) and can't find it anywhere.

So if anyone out there finds 2, I'm interested also....

I picked up Art Blakey's "Caravan" with Wayne Shorter on sax and also Blakey's Live album recorded at Slugs in NY. Both for $8 total. Listening to the Live one right now. My record store is the sh*t!!

I check every Friday for you, meggy.

My shop had a copy, but it was some kind of repressing. Unless I'm familiar with the pressing, I eschew non-originals.

I did pick up the first Stones LP in MONO, though and some more Uriah Heep.

what is the significance of the 'Porky' writing on the runout of Zep IV? I have a couple and would like to know.

sorry Meggy, I don't mean to walk on the thread.

That means the lacquer was cut by George Peckham, and those pressings are sought after by people in the know.

I know meggy's looking for a clean LP version of the album, but I thought I'd report that the Japanese 24-bit HDCD Remaster [Robert Fripp mix!] CD I recently picked up sounds better than my 30th Anniversary CD, my MFSL (waaay better than the MFSL) and my original UK/Pink Island LP with A/1 - B/1 stampers. Prior to finding this 24-bit Jap CD I was convinced that no version of this album could ever sound, well, good. Fripp and the Japanese fixed that. For those interested, the 24-bit HDCD catalogue number is IECP-10003.

Meggy, I actually bought this from a bricks & mortar record store!, Rhino Records in Westwood (actually Los Angeles, west side) about a year ago, on the recommendation of Rhino staff. I have seen it on ebay a couple of times, probably has been listed there many times, just scour the ads for Japanese-issued CDs of the album and ask 'em what the catalogue number is if they haven't included it in the listing...and ebay sellers rarely do. If I can figure out a way to scan this bitch, I'll send you pix of the front, back and the disc. And the obi! Yes, it came with its own wee obi.
