Hi gentleman
I have been in serch of a preamp with the warmest sound and a fast bass. I have tried APT,Sansui, adcom, harmon. nad,Mc 28,32 but all have good sound but the range of adjustment is limited. I am running a MC 2500 as a power amp , Adcom 565 preampand a carver 390t tube cd player. this is all hooked up to JBL olympus with 2 Le15a. 2 le85 mid driver.and a 077 tweet in each cabinet. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1116/1182590330_3540d15c23_b.jpg Of course dependind on how the cd and or album sounds that i am playing the system sounds good. But it seams with the the recordings with lower quility sound i can not adjust the bass and treable to a point i like. My adcom has the warmest sound but the bass adjustment is not much and when you do crank it up it sound slow not punchy. I was told to get a Marantz 3250B and or a model 7 tube but I donot have the money for the tube unit. I plan to byamp the speakers some day with tubes and SS. But for now I want to buy something and save for the tube amps later.you help would be great
ANY IDEAS?:scratch2:

To good Marantz Pre's I'll add the 1060 integrated amplifier. The pre-amp and the poweramp in this unit can be separated.

Upon reading your posting, the first thought I had was that I'm not sure a new preamp will get you to where you want to be. It looks like you have tried some pretty good preamps in the past and been unhappy with them, so as good as Marantz gear is I'm not sure you're going to get what you want no matter what model you suggest. Before investing your hard-earned bucks in another preamp, you might want to test your system a little bit more. You could run your CD player straight into your Mc 2500 and use the gain control on the amp to set the volume level and then play some very select material to see if you can get the level of performance you want in some key areas from that simple system. If the system won't deliver the sound you desire in that configuration, then maybe you need to take a fresh look at the whole shebang. What might be preventing you from getting the base snap you want is the autoformer design of the 2500 or maybe the woofer excursion limits in the speakers. I own Mc gear and love the sound, but it is clearly not for everyone. Maybe you need to give some thought to going with a faster direct-coupled amplifier like a Spectral or Aragon. Another consideration could be the addition of a dynamic range expander. If the tone controls on the preamps you've tried were not adequate to give you the frequency response control you want, you might also want to look at something like a Behringer 824 Ultra Curve Pro graphic equalizer to tailor the room response. Also, don't forget that it is hard to generate those big low frequency base sound waves in a small room because of reflection and cancellation, so don't let that shoot you down. Anyway, I hope this helps. Let us know how you do. Good luck!

I would like to thank all of you for your help, you all have given me allot to work with.I tried hooking my cd player up to the mc 2500 and it dd well. The bass responce on my system is great but as one of you said I may need to get a dynamic expander to get that tight bass out of a bad recording.I am the type of person that need treabl and bass controlls. I am not a pureist. I feel that most recording quilities are garbage. whn I do play the good recording mixes they sound is great, but for those bad ones I need some more adjustments. I have read alll the responce and I will be doing some buying and testing. Thanks again for all your help.I do know one thing I have a great amp and killer speakers. 2 LE15A,2 Le85 and a 077 in each cabinet. I have pleanty of head room on my amp so now i will keep playing around to get the best sound.http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1116/1182590330_3540d15c23_b.jpg

Marantz 3250 or B version ist the best for the buck!
3300 is very well build but the sound is a bit to soft.
3600 is allso very well build and sound is allso good.
The volume pot's have to be replaced.
3200 is allso a good pre-amp.

If your not a purist, why not run an outboard equalizer?

I have no particular use for tone controls, but can understand why you want them. I had an eq in the past and it really let me dial things in.

Where in WI are you? I have a very nice JVC that you can try if your local enough!

It's only been cleaned and running in my system for a few days, but so far I love the 3600. Lots of filters and EQ to play with, but completely neutral sounds pretty darn good too. That is a cute dog by the way.

hi, i disagree with this statement, my 3300 is extremely musical and tight with good punchy bass....a perfect marriage with my 250 and the rest of my gear....also having a gain selector switch and every possible filter you could ask for allows for complete control over the output of my system...my .02:thmbsp:
