I just recieved my first marantz reciever from Ebay today. I bought a Marantz 2245 and the unit was in impecable shape.

I just wanted to say the sound is UNBELIEVABLE!.

The best way to describe it is the studio sound is gone and it sounds live.
That is the best way I can explain it. I have never heard a reciever like this in my life. Truly incredible.

I listen soley to classical and Brass music and was a little nervous because I heard that these reciever are bass heavy. That is simply not true. They are truly life like in the stage they present.

The 2245 is an amazing reciever and I highly recommend it.

I am comparing it against a Harmon Kardon hk380i. The marantz absolutely blows this unit out of the water. Hands down.

It breathes life into all of my old CD's and tapes. I have to go and keep listening. But consider me a new Marantz enthusiast!

There's something about the old vintage equipment. I'm not saying it's better than new equipment, but it sure sounds damn good to me.
Have fun with your new friend, and welcome to AK.:thmbsp: Lots of fine folks here.:music:

I've got a couple of 2245's and agree that they sound GREAT. At present, I'm giving my 2325 a good workout, but those 2245's are sweet. Congrats and enjoy!

I presently have about 10 Marantz receivers, most of which are hooked up and used fairly often. I have one Model 2245 and I must admit it is definitely one of my favorites. Good luck with yours and welcome to AK.

I see you took my advice and found your way to AK! I hope you enjoy the Marantz as much as I did. I'm glad it made it to Canada in one piece(even though I pack well, I'm still nervous whenever I ship anything).

i can agree with that the older stuff does have "THAT" sound to it.i was using a newer pioneer 5.1,and this marantz sounds 100 times better.the transformer in my marantz out weighs that entire pioneer.:D

2240 is my living room receiver. I always considered it the 'sweet spot' of their lineup - enough power and the features for most situations. Welcome to the club!

Welcome to AK, and congratulations on discovering the joy of vintage Marantz sound. :music: :thmbsp:

The 2245 is one of those not-too-common Marantz receivers that has a cult-like following of avid fans, mostly the people who, uh... well, the people who own them! :D It does seem to be one of the "sweeter" sounding of the 22XX receivers.

Out of curiosity, what speakers are you driving with that 2245?

I am running a pair of Pure Accoustic Tower Speakers on the Main outputs and a pair of Paradigm Titan's on the Remote outputs.

The Marantz really make the pure accoustic's really sing.
