Found one of his records today. Very nice sleeve, with a pretty scuffed record. The record plays well which surprised me. The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. I have never seen this thrifting. Not rare, but an unusual find. Haven't found anything in a couple of weeks.

Couple of years ago I decided I couldn't live without this record (don't ask me why) so I went out and bought one off E-bay for about 6 or 7 bucks. About two weeks after I got it -and its no great album either- I find a still sealed copy at the GW for a buck.:thumbsdn:

A classic for sure. There is no Arthur Brown that is better than this one. A stroke of pure genius when it was new, way ahead of it's time. I bought this on a lark when it came out and all my friends did when they heard mine.

I hear so little about Aurthur Brown. This is great! This one of the greatest, strangest, scarriest, grooviest (what else) albums ever released. Its an electronic audio roller coaster ride!!

To me with older recordings you need to realize and appreciate WHEN it was released and the recording technology available at the time in order to not become too judgemental and not give it a fair chance.

Aurthur Brown and Organ virtuoso Vincent Crane recorded this jewel in 1968 (I think). Think now about what MOST rock listeners were hearing at that time and then give Crazy World a spin. I would venture to say that it was jaw dropping just hearing the record when it was released. Not to mention seeing a show that from what I have read fathered "shock rock" to come a la Alice Cooper, Kiss and later Rob Zombie and Marylin Manson.

Evidently the show was ultra theatric including Brown running around with his head apearing to be on fire via a flaming football helmet or something.

Side one to me is the whole album. The mood is very dark, if not scary but the music has such a great groove and the HEAVY keyboards always give a happy vibe to music to me.

Like a lot of music from that time this album was specifically produced to enhance the psychedelic experience. It would be safe to say this one would do its job. Just a guess. I did not inhale, or eat that mushroom from the cow pattie.............

Brown did several things through the years but as far as I know "Crazy World" is the most notable. Other ventures are Atomic Rooster and Aurthur Brown's Kingdom Come. A few years ago they did another Isle Of Wight festival overseas and I remember seeing Brown and Robert Plant as the two most recognizable on the website. There were a few others but nothing like the 1970 version which was packed with big league bands.

I just played Fire that I taped off KSHE at my school tonight. Freaked out the people who had never heard it before...Pretty funny.

If that freaked them out get the whole thing and play them "Prelude" through "Confusion"

Sheer madness!! Great stuff!!!

Remember, they are high school sophomores and freshmen and one 27 year old... I sure have fun with them when I pick music to play in the theater during set construction, painting and lighting :D. They get exposed to everything from Dan Fogelberg to Dragon Force to Miles Davis....

Great stuff. I loved 'Fire' when it came out as a single, and found the LP used a couple of years later (with my income or lack thereof at the time, I was buying virtually every LP used). My Jr. High self was blown away by the LP. Still have the original I bought in the early 70's, as well as a real nice copy I found at the thrifts 2-3 years ago. I think it's time to give it a listen...

Like many albums of it's time, the mono and stereo versions are quite different. I have the original Track mono Lp, the Track single of I Put A Spell On You (can't remember what the b-side is) and the Atlantic single of Fire/Rest Cure. Bought the CD about ten years ago, which is the stereo version plus some of the mono album mixes. Essential stuff IMO.

I haven't heard the LP in years. Thanks for the reminder. I'll spin it this weekend.

Carl Palmer -- of Emerson Lake and Palmer -- played drums with Atomic Rooster for a period of time.
