What a hell of a drummer.. you know him.. In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida....

Proud to hear he was also a military brat... lived in 34 states... started playing drums in the 6th grade.. born in 45, that would put him around the age of 23 when he did the solo we all know and love...

Wonder what he's done since then?

To add just a little more... the guy playing the organ, Doug Ingle, he learned from his father.. a church pianist... Ya gotta love those who revolted and took their skills to another level...

Iron Butterfly was/is a way better band than In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida I think. I much prefer listening to "Metamorhosis" or "Heavy".

Last time I looked they were still touring but I don't know if Ron Bushy is still with them. The band has seen MANY lineup changes through the years. One Bass player vanished for several years. It was rumored that the government had something to do with his demise because he either worked for them or possesed some scientific knowledge that they were interested in. Its been a while back I read the story so my minds a little foggy on the specifics.

I do know that I was listening to the radio one night and heard the anouncement that his bones had been found in a vehicle that had ran off the road and went undiscovered for something like 8 years.

I wonder how many missing persons are simply down the side of some big mountain or hill where people don't go....

Now that's the kinda stuff that is cool about a lot of these bands.. They lived some crazy lives... and you are right.. they did a lot of other songs that showed more talent, but just never got the credit..

Wikipedia is our friend....

"As of 2004, the group is once again re-formed, and is touring with early members Ron Bushy and Lee Dorman. Iron Butterfly is now working on a new album that should be released in mid-late 2007."

Trivia

Led Zeppelin opened for Iron Butterfly. A year to the day later Iron Butterfly opened for Led Zeppelin. The ironic twist continued with the band Yes, members of which are friends of drummer Ron Bushy.
When Iron Butterfly reformed in 1968 after a brief split, musicians rumored to have been interested in joining as lead guitarist include Neil Young, Jeff Beck, and Michael Monarch. Doug Ingle and Ron Bushy eventually decided upon Erik Brann.
In an episode of the Simpsons (Season 7 episode 4: Bart Sells His Soul), Bart plays a prank by substituting the church hymnal with "In the Garden of Eden" ("In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida") by "I. Ron. Butterfly".
