Hi,
New to the forum, but I've found a 2230 receiver for sale, listed as mint, everything working, etc., got a call into the owner to find out more. This will drive a system for my daughters, an honest 30 wpc will do fine here. Any particular issues with this unit to look out for, it look like a nice unit.

In my experience a very fine unit. Nothing bad to say about it.
Believe me it's more than an honest 30W!!!!!!
Very surprising unit.

I LOVE mine!!
If your lucky....the panel lights will still work.
No big deal as the bulbs are cheap and easily obtainable....BUT a pain-in-the-butt to replace.
Pots also might be noisy....but nothing that a couple of shots of contact cleaner can't cure.
Check channel balance....IMO that tends to be an issue with older receivers...
no matter WHO makes it?
That said....the Marantz 2230 is a hell-of-a-receiver!
It has a mid-range control.
You can remove the jumpers in back....and use it as a separate amp....or as a separate tuner/pre-amp.
Very sweet "tube-like" sound!
If it's in good shape....your daughters will owe you a nice Xmas card....at least!!
Good luck!!!

Thanks guys,
My plan is to score this if it lives up to the ad.

I've got a 2238B and it blows the heck out of a *supposedly* 100wpc two-channel system I bought at BestBuy a few years ago. The thing to remember when looking at Marantz receivers/amps is that the power rating you're looking at is Marantz power, which means it will put out good, clean power that sounds like much more than what is rated.
As mentioned, you'll probably need to replace some bulbs (unless panel lights up as-is) and clean some controls with contact cleaner. I'd recommend working the seller down in price if you're going to have to buy and install bulbs and clean controls. I paid more for mine because the seller had cleaned the unit and replaced the bulbs-it was plug-and play :) Mine has a tape 1 selector pushbutton that is showing its age-when dirty, right channel cuts out until the switch is jiggled and/or cleaned. Other than than those issues (which will be present in most any system in or entering its third decade of usage), you can realistically expect to hear tube-quality audiophile audio from a solid state system. :music:

I've got a 2238B with pre-out/main-in connectors on the back. Should these be connected with jumpers? They are not currently and yet the system works.

..that the 2230 has capacitor coupled outputs, with no output protection relay. You'll get a loud "thump" at the speakers at times turning it on of off, or selecting one of the speaker buttons. Be sure the volume is always turned down when powering on or off, and don't power it on and off in rapid succession....:nono:

I believe your reciever has those connected, unless you plug something into them. The 2230 requires the jumpers. I replaced the jumpers in mine with a set of DHLabs Silver Sonic II interconects, and it made a noticable improvement in the sound. That said the 2230 is the sweet spot in the 22** series of Marantz recievers even with the stock jumpers. IMHO

Looking at my circuit diagram, I think you're right (see attached)...
