View Full Version : Wow, this is insane!!
yungin's-dad 11-27-2007, 11:32 PM Here I am truckin' along thinkin' I got this nice system building up. I get lost on the freeway and end up in here. Now I realize just what a redneck I really am. Seems no matter how good you get, someone can always bloody your nose!!
Nice stuff in here!!
Ron
luvvinvinyl 11-28-2007, 07:00 AM Ron, if you are happy with what you have, enjoy the music. This place is about alternatives, and learning about what is out there, even if a particular reader never incorporates these pieces into his or her system.
I hang out at my local dealer's shop, to listen to all kinds of stuff that I'll never own, but it does help me refine my own objectives for my system.
No bloody noses in here, only warm welcomes.
BrocLuno 11-28-2007, 01:10 PM Synergy can make two different systems equal in performance, if not voicing. It's about learning, experimenting, getting other ideas, looking for alternatives that will work for you. The collective knowledge here is pretty amazing. This is one place to kick the concepts around before you drop the $$. The ideas do flow :)

I've found from visiting dealerships that my vintage system kicks some very expensive well regarded ass.
By a large margin.

Don't you love that.
I won't ever say anything about it when I'm at a shop. Rule #1: Never piss off the locals.
John in MA 12-03-2007, 08:00 PM I'm not sure what counts as vintage these days, but very shortly I will no longer own any loudspeakers that I'd consider vintage. Not through any concentrated effort, just the way things worked out.
johnda 12-14-2007, 06:41 AM I think it just has to do with age. As much as I enjoyed my old gear, it is finally getting to the point of no return. When components give out it is becoming harder to find a technician who can fix them or parts for them, so they unfortunately need to go. Fare thee well, my faithful friends from the 60's, we have had many great years together.:tears:

+1  You can do it. Patience, persistence, and a good AK "education" will get you there.

Yeah but you cheat. EW'ed vintage is kind of like the steroid era of baseball.
theophile 12-14-2007, 06:29 PM If you read EchoWars post on the subject you will see that the 700C was originally designed for film capacitors.

The analogy is not to steroid abuse(overcompensation for what is already adequate),but rather rectification of the intended design.Like repairing a hole in the Heart.

Cheating or not, once you have been EWed there is no going back.
