9 Tons Of Pot Found Inside Shipment Of TV Sets
(AP) SAN DIEGO It's being called the largest marijuana bust ever at the Calexico port of entry. Federal agents say they seized nearly nine tons of pot inside a shipment of flat-panel television sets.

Drug dogs alerted border patrol agents to the tractor-trailer Friday afternoon. Inside they found over 1,000 packages of pot along with the TVs.

Pretty weird, alright. You have to wonder, if they really did "lose" two trash bags full, how much did they successfully transport? :scratch2: Anyone else have any experience with the bales washing up on the beach, back in the late 70s & early 80s? Smugglers would just throw it overboard, rather than get caught holding the bag. A friend of a friend found one... :D

All kidding aside, they will probably lift enough fingerprints off of the bags to arrest someone. The area where it was found is mostly agricultural :D with strawberries and some tomatoes but, Interstate 4 runs right through the area though, so it could have come from anywhere.

I'm startin' to think Donkey! had it right. Y'all are a bunch of stoners......Mark, I suspect many older members here risked a few brain cells at an earlier age....and, unlike Brother Clinton, will admit to inhaling....I, for one, can only say mandatory random drug-testing at the railroad beginning in the early 80's certainly got my attention....I never smoked much dope to begin with, "rarely" bought any, so it wasn't that difficult to let go.....

.....here's the effect THC has on the brain, or so I've been told by more than one source....I'm sure some brain cells are killed outright just like with a serious drinking session, but THC takes it further....picture in your mind a large residential section of a town looking at it from an aerial view....many wires run to each house, electricity, phone, cable, etc....when you cop a serious buzz on THC, the lines to a great many of the houses unattach and go straight up....I suspect that's why you can get ripped driving a car on the freeway and suddenly not have a clue where you're at past realizing you're on a freeway....a couple hours later, a large percentage of the wires reattach to the houses/brain cells, but some don't....congratulations, even though it may be by less than a small fraction of a half per-cent, you've become a small percentage more stewpid.....

.....take a long look at someone you knew for a long time before they started getting ripped, who has smoked multiple times virtually every day for the last few years....do they appear to have lost something mentally?....you think this is all hooey?....get ripped and try to learn something fairly complicated you know you could breeze through straight....get ripped and try to even read a book....no, don't get ripped....this thread has had some humorous moments, but keep your natural abilities you're naturally drawn toward in that brain as sharp as possible, you're going to need them and the related brain-power later in life....end of sermon.....

Arkay
11-29-2007, 01:22 AM
Mulester7 is right with the sermon. The idea that pot is "harmless" or doesn't cause any permanent brain damage is well and truly disproved. There is permanent brain damage caused by smoking that stuff. No, we aren't all imbeciles for having tried it once or twice years ago, any more than someone who worked in a lab or plant where dangerous fumes were inhaled will automatically have children with birth defects... but the damage is real and measurable. Heck, I (and anyone else who is familiar with the patterns) can tell someone who has smoked enough pot --even when they are NOT high-- just by their slightly altered speech patterns.

As for those plants found along the roadside, the article said they were "house-grown". Maybe someone got wind that their Uncle-in-law, the chief of police in another town, was going to pay a family visit for Thanksgiving...

Too bad the drug dealers didn't lose bags of their money along the road like that...

For obvious reasons, I hate to bring marijuana advocacy to the public forums. Just the same, I saw a few misconceptions in some recent posts that I thought needed addressed.

Bullshit and propaganda are common as dirt in the arguments both for and against marijuana and it’s hard to know what the facts are. Luckily, medical science has gone a long way in the last twenty-five years toward explaining exactly how marijuana affects the body.

While Mulester’s metaphor about electric lines is a neat one for the brain, I think he might be a bit confused about how marijuana works in the body. The cannibinoids in marijuana, of which THC is chiefly responsible for psychoactive effect, attach to the CB1 receptors in the dopaminergic neurons, mimicking an unnatural quantity of anandamide (a regulatory cannibinoid naturally occurring in the human brain). The results include changes in mood, cognition, and hunger.

The "THC kills brain cells" argument has been debunked. The idea first came to the forefront in 1980 when a study in The National Academy of Sciences reported that marijuana produced structural changes in the brain cells of Rhesus monkeys exposed to particularly high doses. The results were never replicated in later experiments and the information is now largely discredited.

Interestingly enough, recent experiments on mice with the cannibinoid HU210 suggest that it promotes neurogenesis. Furthermore, multiple recent studies are supporting the idea that cannibinoids can help protect the brain from damage due to toxins, hypoxia, and head trauma. HU211 (Dexanabinol) is already in human trials as a nueroprotective pharmaceutical (the upshot is that this suggests the brain cell death caused by a night of heavy drinking might be somewhat mitigated by partaking in the weed).

One recent study of post-mortem human neurophysiology observed a lower number of CB1 receptors in chronic marijuana smokers. The effects of this are unknown and AFAIK the study has not been replicated. We all know “burnouts,” but I’d question whether these people are a) actually perpetually stoned, b) stupid to begin with, or c) have done a lot of other drugs besides marijuana. I know A LOT of 50+ year-old stoners who are doing just fine for themselves. I'd suspect a number of closeted AK members fit that description.

Going through life as a habitual marijuana user probably isn’t the best way to live. Still, as far as I can determine, the greatest dangers posed by pot are those related to its continued prohibition.

I'd like to try it someday, just to see what it's like...

And I always thought CB1 receptors had something to do with truckers. Oh well, back to the closet.

Legalise, or at least decriminalize the herb, and tax the sh*t out of it. Insane quantities of energy and money are wasted fighting this particular drug. Never going to happen in this country though.

There's an article in today's Tampa Tribune (local paper) telling about all of the prank calls the police are getting about these bags of pot. Pretty funny stuff. They are even getting calls from out of the country. Serves them right, like anyone is going to claim this. If it was mine, I would just mourn the loss and move on. I don't need to go to prison for 5 or more years for a bunch of plants. The drug war is absurd, especially towards pot. SWAT teams breaking down people's doors and arresting them for weed. I guess it's easier to arrest stoners and their dealers than it is to clean up meth labs. <end soap box sequence>
