Not taking in considerations that it is a collector's item. What does the performance compares to? MAC or not.

Definitely the best tube Mac ever .. so far. Its beautiful, build like a tank, smooth sounding and powerful. Of course, speakers with high efficiency like 90db/w will benefit .... I used it to power my then WP7 .......

Cannot compare this to the SS Macs as its its not fair in terms of power output .......
Cheers!

I don't know to be honest. IMHO it does not compare to a pair of MC2102 either. The MC2000 is hybrid remember, not pure tube. It was the only item in Mc's arsenal which made decide there and then to get and to hell if I couldn't afford anything else. Even now it continues to amaze me. Powerful tight base, and absolutely magical midband.

One of a kind IMHO. May be the MC2301 will give it a run for its money :scratch2:

On the used market, the MC2000 still commands $10K+. There are a lot of options at that price. Is it really "all that and a bag of chips"?

Ron,

Do you consider the MC2000 BEST McIntosh amp so far?

Will the MC2000 ever be beat by a future McIntosh amp?

Do you have more info on this?

As of right now the only thing that I have heard better than a single MC2000 was a pair of them in mono! Will they build something "better"? Well there will not be another Sid Cordeman designed tube amp. Will the next generation of the McIntosh tube amps sound better? No one, not even McIntosh (yet) can speculate on that. Not until we get to start listening. The MC2000 was a limited production unit, which is why you see a good price on them used still. Other than a few straglers here and there, you will not see them go any lower. We have seen a few come through here not even opened!
