Hi Guys,

I am a newby here, but also at the world of vintage audio, so please bear with me. At the moment I listen my record with a modified Thorens 166. I want to make a seperate setup for my dad's 78 records. (I guess that a seperate setup is the beginning of the end....?)
I was thinking of a Dual 1229 orso, but now I have seen a Elac Miracord 50H. I have seen them going for 50 euro's or less, but this is a bit special version. It is a studio version (3200?) which weighs 14 kilos and is a sort of modded version, even with some extra set up tools which can be mounted on the deck.
Peculiar is the wooden dustcover instead of a clear one. I have no idea how much of this is original, but it seems all of it.
The guy wants to let it go for 110 euro's ($150,-). Just for the Miracord, it is maybe somewhat steep, but I sort of fel in love with it.

What do you think, should I say goodbye to my new love and invest the extra money in a good cartridge orso or......?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Can not tell you what to do but for my the 50H is the only changer I would let 1 of my records touch. I also have a love for these Miracords. Never heard of the version of it you describe but they probably were not imported into the US. If a studio version and considering the mass, I'd suspect it may be 1 of the top of the top of the totl of changers and worth the additional dollars provided it works and is physically in good condition.

Thanks for the reply! I agree there is something special to them... I was thinking the same for the extra bucks, I haven't seen it live, but from the hi-res pictures it seems in very good state. The only but is a broken speed changer switch, but he says that it is repairable by a good hobbiest. Do you know if these parts are still available if I can't fix it?
