Any opinions on this tape.
I have a handful of these I bought 10 years ago and have never used, never even taken out of the wrapper. Found SA-X to be excellent on my three decks. Just wondering if I should try them out or keep them for a rainy day.
And no, I won't sell them.:music:

I have three boxes of that tapes rival, the Maxell Metal Vertex also squirrelled away. Also not for sale!
Seriously though, valuation issues aside, the MA-XG IS a very good tape. I've used them before and think that sound and perform wonderfully. Of course those tapes are seriously overbuilt (and as such, way overpriced). But the MA-XG is an all around outstanding tape and one you will not be disappointed with.
My best suggestion would be to set one or two sealed copies aside for 'collectible' purposes and use the balance as you see fit: albeit sparingly and only for your 'best' recordings. These would definitely be tapes that only get used at home (definitely no car stereos here). Perhaps what you might want to do is make your 'finest' mixes on the MA-XG's and then dub them onto 'lesser' grade cassettes and use those for daily listening and keep the -XG's as archive/'source only' masters.

Luckily I have the decks to match. Pioneer CT95, Teac V6030S and a Nakamichi DR10.. But all three sound so good with SA-X I've never felt the need to use anything better. Got some SA-XS too and a load of Maxell MXS and XL11S too. Actually the Pioneer will make even simple UR sound amazing when using Dolby S, even when cranked up way into the red. What a misunderstood format cassette is!

I have a few TDK MA-XG and have always found it difficult deciding which album warrants using a MA-XG.Does anyone think that Elton Johns "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" album is a good enough album to be put on a MA-XG?

I ever only bought one of these tapes (the old metal frame one) and it ended up having degradation issues when I finally decided to use it. Shame really. So I never could find out how good a tape it was. And yes Dolby S works wonders with cassettes.
