I just bought an SX-60 receiver on e-bay ($43.00). I've researched as much as I can, was just wondering if anyone out there has owned one, and if so, what you thought of it. Any info is greatly appreciated. I've also have an SR-60 reverb and RG-60 expander. I know these "60" compenents were manufactured in the same time frame--are they part of a series or rack system? Thanks all!

Just an update. SX-60 up and running. Sounds excellent and all functions work. Took off cover and front plate & bezel for cleaning, noticed alot more plastic than on my SX-580.

I think that accounts for the lack of responses in this thread...Sorry..:worried:

No problem Marantz. I have a SG-550 on the way to complete that system. I guess i'll refer to it as "80s" Pioneer Plastic. I'm trying depsperately to find an SR-303 reverb to go with my "silver" system. I've lost three (3) e-bay auctions so far trying to get one.

The SX-60 I have was manufactured in 1984. It was rated at 80 watts per channel. This series came after the champaign/gold series, then i believe was followed by black plastic. I assume this was a top of the line receiver, based on price and power (incorporates the "non-switching amp" system). Mine sounds great, but you can tell build quality difference once you raise the hood. I have grouped this receiver in my collection with other pioneer components from the same era and appearance (SR-60, SG-60 and RG-60).

Very nice looking system. I noticed the difference in my new to me SX-3700 and my home theater receiver VSX-D514. Lots of plastic in the new stuff which of course started in the 80s. too bad really, those old receivers where like tanks.

Bought one in excellent condition for $5.00 at a Garage Sale this weekend, to go with my SX-V90 and V900. No one seems to like these but me, though, I agree. I'm on a budget that's very limited until my second daughter finishes college, and this stuff is great fun and very inexpensive. I want an SA-9800 or 8800 next, though.

Actually there was an SX-V90 which was top dog. Not sure if there was an SX-80 or not. I had an SX-50. Not bad, other than it was in the shop every other month until they finally gave me a brand new one, but that was 25 years ago...
