I was stunned to see a 4"x 4.25" color ad for AKFest 08 on page 125 of the January 2008 issue of Stereophile. Wonder how much that ad cost to run?

Guess who designed the ads pro bono? Anyone recognize the particular Tube Amp and TT? :D

Thanks guys!

It was fun and challenging trying to get all that info into that small but expensive real estate.

That is Tentoze's Tubes and Ward's TT. So take great photos, maybe next time it will be your piece of gear.

I just have to comment that this is the first time that I have not gotten a straight answer to a posted question on audiokarma. Guess I'll just have to contact Stereophile and ask how run it would cost to run a color ad the size of the one on p.125.

I didn't answer because I felt it was confidential and didn't think it was appropriate for me to do so. You can ask Grumpy or go to their website for ad info.

Why would/should the cost of the ad be confidential? Honestly, what's the big deal in discussing this?

Speaking as another designer (who does not work for AK as one), I would never discuss my client's expenditures/buying patterns with other people or businesses. Certainly not in front of the client. Incredibly rude!

What difference does it make what the ad cost? The ad will generate more interest in the upcoming fest, Audio Karma with those who are unfamiliar with us and possible additional sponsorship, so it's all good!

It's a matter of professional courtesy and I agree with what ozmoid said. Just like doctors don't divulge specifics about their patients or lawyers about their cases. I know it's only an ad, but I respect the client's privacy.

You won't be able to figure out what the ad cost from their website, as the deal is more complicated than that.

What does all that mean? It means that Stereophile might cover the Fest, which might then grow, and in future years become a major event like RMAF... and the only major audio event with a strong vintage section!

Great ad, Carl!

Isn't it cool as heck?

I've never been to a different show but I've been to plenty of conventions. I can't imagine any of them have anything like all the rooms with such a variety of new, old, homebrew...
