Chazzer 12-26-2007, 01:33 PM I don't know if it is considered "gifted" or not. I set up a "new" tech/repairman that I met with a system that he owned in the 70's/80's consisting of a Pioneer TX9500II tuner, SA9500II integrated, CT-F9191 cassette, and a pair of Kenwood KL-888Z's for the repair of a couple of my broken pieces. He was exstatic! Urizen 12-26-2007, 01:38 PM Nice, Shawn! I gifted a Carver MXR-130, Toshiba SD-3980 DVD player, a pair of the infamous Insignia speakers with Dayton 24" heavy-duty sand-filled stands, and fresh 16g wire to my gal's daughter and her husband. I set it up myself and it sounded pretty danged good.:music: thedelihaus 12-26-2007, 01:42 PM Vintage Youn'un, although I believe you still really like pizza, sounds like you're digging something else there, too.... This year, a Sony STR-7045 with a pair of Bookshelf ARs, a customized Sansui TU-217, a pair of Baby Advent IIs, a pair of Boston Acoustics A70s, a pair of Minimus 7s, a rare metal faced black anodized Realistic receiver, a Toshiba DVD/VCR combo, an Insignia 37" LCD tv, a copy of Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker", a small stack of Christmas compliations, and a bunch of spare drivers, all mediocre quality, to the neighbor's kids to blow up. chillwolf 12-26-2007, 01:57 PM Well lets hear it!,I gifted a Pioneer SX-737 with Polk monitor 5jr's and a Pioneer PL-514 with a brand new Shure M-92E cart and 3 records,it all went to my friend Denise!. Shawn. Fran604g 12-26-2007, 02:42 PM A pair of "JC Penny" three ways I had kicking around to a guy at work for his BPC stereo at home, that he didn't have speakers for. He ended up bringing the unit into work for his welding area, surprisingly, it actually sounds pretty good. He's all happy. :) torrus 12-26-2007, 02:47 PM My son was the lucky recipient of a mint Concept 11.0...now he's looking for a TT (kids!). justrideit 12-26-2007, 02:56 PM My future wifes' son is going to Michigan State. No college kid should be without a stereo system. I gave him a Leak 3400 receiver, Sansui 2000 speakers in MINT condition and a sony CD player. He's real happy. We listened to it all xmas day and it does sound very nice. Captain Scary 12-26-2007, 03:16 PM Put together a package for a friends boy who just got his own place. A Pioneer SX-2900 and two pair of big floor standers,Pioneer n Kenwoods. Should keep him rockin thru the New Year.......... SixCats! 12-26-2007, 03:18 PM Hi VY, I "gifted" a vintage STROMBERG CARLSON (I believe it's ASR 333) EL-84 Tube Integrated Amp to a true Gentleman who has been a very good friend to me. This friend recently acquired a nice pair of ALTEC 19's and I thought he should have a nice Tube amp to go along with those big ALTEC's! Regards, SixCats! TheRed1 12-26-2007, 03:48 PM For my soon-to-be Sister-in-law: a 1959-60 Fisher Custom Electra III w/ a Garrard 210 TT. It's got an A30 EL84 amp and sounds fantastic. And she likes it! She's been asking me a thousand questions and is enthusiastic about getting the turntable working. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb275/irwinbay/CustomElectraIII-1.jpg http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/bb275/irwinbay/3281.jpg Whitehall 12-26-2007, 04:47 PM Hard to top AR1's delightful present but... I gave out three Sony table radios (the ICF-M1000): one to my dad, one to my 11 y/o daughter, and one to my 12 y/o grandson. The latter two will be able to plug their iPods in. For my daughter-in-law and son, a Yamaha CR-1020, Pioneer DV-563A universal player, and Aero 109 speakers. I'll thow in an FM antenna, rotator, and cables. This hasn't made it down to SoCal yet - need a delivery truck! vintage-yungin 12-26-2007, 04:57 PM very nice!,I didnt have much else to give also most people really dont care about good audio gear so I figured i'd find the one person who would care about it and hooked her up good!,downside I'm still waiting for her other 2 records so the gift is gonna be late! Shawn. dshoaf 12-26-2007, 05:11 PM I gave my son a Dayton/Parts Express subwoofer, one of those Radio Shack amplifiers and 2 satellite speaker kits for his Christmas present. Needless to say, both he and his wife were most interested in what was in all those big boxes that required her to remove a chair from the living room to get them near the tree. He plays lots of video games and wanted a set up to run with his Xbox, Wii, etc. She'll like it for to play the grandson's sing-along CDs - and Daddy built 'em!. Should be fun! Cheers, David Charles 12-26-2007, 05:16 PM Gave my mother and sister each a Tivoli M1. Neither had any conception of what they were, and I didn't talk them up very much. Hopefully, after they listen to them for a while, they will realize that they are a step up from a GE under cabinet radio. If nothing else, they will look good sitting on a shelf. Charles Mike Stehr 12-26-2007, 05:21 PM A couple friends Ashlie and Sammy, had a JVC boombox die last summer. I gave them a Mitsubishi (DX-R15?) receiver from the eighties to at least have music to listen to. They only had the JVC boombox speakers to use with the receiver, which sounded rather wretched. But it was something, and good enough for them until they find some decent speakers. Well one of Ashlie's wishes for xmas was some better speakers. So I felt mercy and gave them a pair of ESS model 10's. Refoamed woofers, new crossover caps, and a little polyfil. I brought them over and we lashed them up right away. Ten times better. It actually sounds like Hi-Fi. When I left, they were getting into some serious listening......and playing stupid mario 3...... freddyfender 12-26-2007, 07:52 PM My son said the Marantz 2265 I gave him last year was dying, so I hooked him up with a Rega Mira 3 int. amp. Now we'll see how far onto her deathbed the old gal is.......... superdog 12-27-2007, 12:43 AM Very good karma for this giving season.I want to give someone a Marantz 1550 receiver and Marantz imperial 7's but don't know anyone who would want it.Like what was said earlier not too many stereo enthusiasts around my parts.I was very happy with this at the time but have moved up.I am sure there has to be someone around that wants it just have to keep looking. MikeCh 12-27-2007, 10:09 AM Gifted a nice pair of oak cabinet Miller & Kreisel 3-B satellite loudspeakers to my father in law for his desk/office. Great little speakers that seemed to be perfect for this application. Also gave him an older JVC 6-CD changer that was just collecting dust in my basement. It feels good to get people back into audio when they truly have an appreciation for the older stuff. Happy New Year! Mike titanstats 12-27-2007, 11:39 AM Nicely done, guys! Well, you are all making me feel cheap, I'm gonna have to say -- I only gave a PL-530 TT away. I do tend to give gear all year long, but I'm sure that you fellows do as well -- it's hard not to. :D Keep the AK flowing. :thmbsp: jhoyt 12-27-2007, 08:44 PM Well, this wasn't explicitly for Christmas, but I just set up my best friend with a system for his new baby's room. Nothing special, a Sony receiver (half decent), Sony CD changer (fairly decent) and a set of like-new Minimus-5's. And, I gave my dad a couple vintage receivers, Technics and H/K. And he gave me, no kidding, a vintage RV. Drove it home from SoCal yesterday. 500 miles in, um, 14 hours... vintage-yungin 12-31-2007, 05:36 PM Some pics of What I gifted---Sorry its so late but hey better late then never!!!. http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k31/chchchawn/002-3.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k31/chchchawn/003-4.jpg http://i84.photobucket.com/albums/k31/chchchawn/004-4.jpg spok 12-31-2007, 05:41 PM ^^^ sweet looking pioneer rig my sisters boys spent a few days with me over the christmas holiday. we don't live in the same town/state so our visits are usually during the holidays. my nephew likes music and really took to my system(s) and vinyl, he sat around with my mother and I while we listened to some good ol music. He went back home to ask his mom for a larger set of speakers for his room... I'm gonna see what i can do to get one of my Pioneer receivers and spare turntable out to him, its the least I can do to get a good(ish) system to him so he can drive my sister nuts with the loud music. I'm such a good brother. vintage-yungin 12-31-2007, 05:45 PM Nice!! I see you have a PL-530/518 I have a 518 and had the 530 the TT im gifting is a PL-514 and its right up there with the 530/518! Rock on man the kid should enjoy it!! Shawn. spok 12-31-2007, 05:50 PM I'll be keeping the PL-530/528/510 but will most likely send him my old Sony PS-LX22 turntable and probably the SX-535 vintage-yungin 12-31-2007, 05:59 PM That 535 is an awesome receiver he's a lucky kid I think the lower wattage #3# series are the best sounding. Shawn. spok 12-31-2007, 06:10 PM I have a 434 out in the garage, the 535 used to be out there. its just sitting on a shelf right now not being used. He should be good to go fiddlefye 12-31-2007, 08:38 PM This gifting hasn't happened yet, but my 14 year old daughter was over this week (she lives with her mum) and was drooling over the Marantz 4300 I have. She'd like a vintage system of her own, so I'm going to put together something really nice for her birthday. Christmas was the (ubiquitous) iPod, her birthday will be something a bit more substantial, methinks. They can't catch the bug too early as far as I'm concerned! superdog 12-31-2007, 10:50 PM Very good karma for this giving season.I want to give someone a Marantz 1550 receiver and Marantz imperial 7's but don't know anyone who would want it.Like what was said earlier not too many stereo enthusiasts around my parts.I was very happy with this at the time but have moved up.I am sure there has to be someone around that wants it just have to keep looking. Found someone. My superviser at work.He listens to music at home though the dvd player and tv.It was kind of hard to let go but i have better gear and need to downsize on the big speakers. Simpson 01-01-2008, 12:27 PM Introduced vinyl to a good friend of mine by gifting a newly cleaned up Yamaha YP-B4 and some d4. He had been pretty much a mp3 guy, but had gotten curious about my system(s) over the last few years, so now he's very excited. We got it all hooked up on Sunday, and he's good to go, spinning some Arcade Fire I think. |
