I've been meaning to call you, but with everything that has been happening, and the holiday, it got away from me. jgarcia 12-26-2007, 07:33 PM yes i did. there is a thread out on the speakers. thanx for all your help. i have them hooked up to my scott mono blocks; they sound great. regards, jose jgarcia 12-26-2007, 09:18 PM ok. i would like t replace my tech 1200 mkII with the nottingham SE TT. it comes w/ a interspace arm and a dennon 103 cart. has anyone used one of these tt's? recommendations please, i dont want to drop the $$$$, without some sound input. ' regards boyo 12-26-2007, 09:40 PM I own a Nottingham Interspace turntable but I'm not familar with the SE you are asking about. Nottinghams are highly respected in terms of both turntables and tonearms. It was a major stepup from my MMF-5. BTW, I'm using a different, non-Nottingham tonearm so I can't comment on that aspect. It sounds like you're looking at a hell of a nice package. jgarcia 12-26-2007, 09:44 PM so in your opinion this move would not be a lateral move compared to my 1200? regards www.records 12-26-2007, 10:56 PM The only Nott table I have heard was a Horizon. Stock RB300 arm with a Dyna 10x5 and later a Shelter 501. It sounded very very nice, but since it wasn't in my own system (something I am familiar with) it is hard to say how much better it would be than a 1200. Personally, I think I would consider some of the upgrades to the 1200, unless I just had some cash I had to spend on a new TT. Also Jose, what cartridge do you currently have on your 1200? You probably have several ways to upgrade your system with your current table. Those Notts are awfully nice looking though. Tough call I guess. BrocLuno 12-26-2007, 11:59 PM Depends on if you want a high end TT and a work horse too. I like having 2 TT's so I can play/preview eBay and thrift store vinyl. I don't have my higher end TT yet, but will in a month or so. However, I have always had two TT's to work off of. It's a good way to get through the stack w/o exposing your latest big $$ cart to the rigors of the unknown. :) boyo 12-27-2007, 12:30 AM I would consider it an upgrade. The Horizon is the bottom end of their line and by all accounts it's a damn fine turntable and a great buy. All Nottinghams are interesting from several perspectives. One, their turntables are as close to handmade as any turntable at this price range. It's a very small operation out in Nottingham, England. Two, they have no Web site and support constitutes calling or (snail) mailing the company owner and founder directly. Anyone who has called Tom Fletcher gives him very positive marks for the help they receive. Three, the turntables have such low powered motors that they don't include on/off switches. You start and stop the platter by hand. The motor never is shut off. This is difficult for non-Nottingham owners to understand but us NA users know it's the coolest thing around. The low powered motor is core to the Nottingham's design philosphy and the motor is designed to idle for year's on end. Four, Nottingham's cult of users may be smaller in numbers than the Techinics 1200 cult, but it's probably more brainwashed (in a good way of course). :music: I'd still like to see a picture of the SE. clydeselsor 12-27-2007, 01:47 AM Is it the Horizon SE? I found this on the web: Recently reviewed by Michael Fremer (Mr. Analog) in the February 2003 issue of Stereophile. It was up against five other tables from SOTA, Rega, and Pro-Ject. His conclusion? "The Horizon delivered 'touch' and 'feel' that the others, as good as they were, only hinted at... Where most of the tables produced a slightly glazed sound compared to far more expensive models, the Horizon mimicked the sound of multi-thousand-dollar rigs..." jcmjrt 12-27-2007, 01:07 PM ok. i would like t replace my tech 1200 mkII with the nottingham SE TT. it comes w/ a interspace arm and a dennon 103 cart. has anyone used one of these tt's? recommendations please, i dont want to drop the $$$$, without some sound input. ' regards Do you have a phono amp that will work with the Denon DL-103? That's a LOMC cartridge. jgarcia 12-27-2007, 07:30 PM yes, a dynavector. regards jose Trower 12-27-2007, 07:40 PM Man I have been lusting after one of those since I first laied eyes upon it. Just for looks alone I would go for it:) Now that I've said pretty much nothing useful to you (other then you will have my envy) I will wish you good luck, Nick |
