I'm a casual fan of jazz music. One of the artists that first really turned me on to the genre in a big way was jazz pianist Oscar Peterson. Oozing with talent, but a very understated gentleman, his work captured my ear and my imagination.

Sadly, Oscar Peterson passed away on December 23, 2007. I'll be spinning some vinyl tonight and listening to the great one ticking the keys.

RIP Mr Peterson, and thank you for all you've given to music.

Oscar had a sense of swing that was incomparable. I saw him a couple of years ago and ofcourse after his well chronicled health issues he didn't have what he once possessed but what he still had was amazing. He was a gentleman as well. Twice he passed so close I had to get up from my table to let him by and our eyes met and we spoke...in his eyes I felt the warmth of a man who was truly good and decent. Oscar is one of my all time favorites...I already miss him. He spoke eloquently of his fallen friends last I was in his company and now he has joined them.....I'm sure heaven is swingin' tonight.
