First, let me say that I hope I am posting this in the right place, and my apologies if its in the wrong place. My question is this, does anyone know about japanese pressings? Are they any good? The reason for my asking is that Soundstage Direct has some japanese pressings of music I really like, one in particular is Gaucho by Steely Dan. I have some old pressings of this album but would really like a nice clean 180/200 gram copy. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kevin

Generally, jp pressings are pretty good. I read somewhere they don't skimp on the quality of vinyl, for one. I believe I got my SD Gaucho from Elusive disc. :thmbsp: Well worth it.

On the other hand, my jp pressing of T-REX sucks big time while my jp Blind Faith is kind of so-so. My original blows it away sonic-wise, except for it's pretty worn.

But I digress.

I have often been told the Japanese pressings are very good and had a problem some time back about being rather bright. Gaucho is an album that tends tp pop-up in good shape do you have any places to look down your way?

Japanese pressings are very good pressings never had any problems with them. I own a rare 45w/ps of Deep Purple Woman From Toyko. A few years ago a couple of japanese record dealers sold a lot japanese pressed lp's,45s at a record show in Seattle,WA but I haven't returned since then.

Me? Yeah, it's pretty common around here. Not jp, but regular. Next time I go I'll look for bargin box Guachos, clean em up and let you know what comes out of it. Might even have an extra on the shelf now, I'll look tonight.

Japanese quality varies somewhat but as a whole, the pressings are good.

Most Japanese vinyl I've bought has been much better than the original pressing.

From my experience when we lived in Japan in the 60's the albums really sucked the quality was poor, however when my Dad went overseas in the
70's and brought me some records back they were great! I think they are even better now the last Japanese album I bought was a Kylie Minogue and it sounds pretty good better than the British original.
