View Full Version : Rock songs that peg your meters
I usually never listen too loud to blues, jazz, classical or even metal but some rock songs were meant to be listened to at full tilt. You know, the louder you go the better they sound and get your blood boiling so at the risk of loosing your hearing and blowing up your speakers you keep turning them up and up until it starts to peg those blue McIntosh meters and it feels great. :D So what are some of you favorite ones? Some of my notoriously loud ones are:
Van Halen: Jump
AC/DC: For those about to rock.
Motley Crue: Shout at the devil.
Guns and Roses: Welcome to the Jungle
Cinderella: Hot and Bothered
Dire Straits: Money for Nothing
Def Leppard: Rock Brigade
Metallica: Enter Sandman
Poison: Ride the wind
Scorpions: Rock you like a Hurricane
Whitesnake: Still of the Night
Billy Squier: Everybody wants you
Judas Priest: Screaming for Vengeance
Sammy Hagar: I can't drive 55
Tom Petty: Refugee
The Who: Who are you
The Police: Don't stand so close to me
Rolling Stones: I can't get no satisfaction
Genesis: Abacab
Eric Clapton: Cocaine
Eddie Money: I think I'm in love
Bryan Adams: Summer of '69
Joan Jett: I love Rock 'N Roll
Billy Idol: Rebel Yell
Ozzy: Crazy Train
Rush: Tom Sawyer
Bon Jovi: You give love a bad name
ZZ Top: Sharp dressed man
Iron Maiden: Invaders
Queen: Another one bites the dust
Journey: Send her my love
JC Mellencamp: Hurts so good
Duran Duran: Rio
Twisted Sister: I wanna Rock
Eurythimics: Sweet dreams
Robert Palmer: Bad case of loving you
Culture Club: Kharma Kameleon. :D (yeah right!)
Phew, many more but I am too tired to think and type. :D How about your favorites?

RSL'67 12-28-2007, 11:15 PM Ahh, YOU'RE ALL WASTED !! (grin)
Who's Next is a bona fide classic. :thmbsp:
I second jem666...
TOOL
Most anything they released. Their releases are recorded with incredible detail and quality. I use several Tool songs to test systems I put together because their music is recorded so well, yet the abundance of detailed sound borders on chaotic. This brings lesser systems to their knees very quickly and shows equipment flaws right away.
On many music systems, Tool may sound chaotic and distorted. On a high quality music system with good imaging and a wide frequency range, Tool sounds incredibly detailed with a wide soundstage and full depth. Speakers literally disappear and the front of your listening area becomes a stage.
Bonz

Yeah, good one. I just feel sometimes Rob Zombie is a little too much like Ministry or KMFDM.
RSL'67 12-29-2007, 12:58 AM Thunderkiss '65 still rules all.
n8thesk8 12-29-2007, 01:01 AM Good call RSL'67

Further evidence that a six pack, an otherwise vacant abode and a volume pot don't neccessarily equal savant levels of musical aestheticism.
RSL'67 12-29-2007, 01:15 AM Good call RSL'67
Have you ever heard of Rebel Meets Rebel?
Sure - Pantera (minus Phil) w/ DAC on vox - raw but good tunage - I like it! :thmbsp:

BridgedToMono 12-29-2007, 01:24 AM Rage Against the Machine Minus De La Rocha + Soundgarden guy (whatever they call themselves) ~ Like a Stone
Audioslave!
Grateful Dead ~ Lucky (think that's the title, guitar solo on Dick's Picks 10, Jerry had it goin on that night)
I don't know "Lucky", but #10 opens with "Jack Straw", which makes my list as well. Stacked Large Advents + Stacked KLH 17's + TimeFrames still don't equal the Wall of Sound, though.
n8thesk8 12-29-2007, 01:35 AM There are many bands that require you to peg out the meters with every song like:
AC/DC
Rage Against the Machine
Pantera
CCR
Scorpion8 12-29-2007, 01:41 AM Frankie Goes to Hollywood ~ Relax
donoghue 12-29-2007, 01:41 AM Audioslave!
I've got the cd. It's just more fun to poke fun at the name game than look it up. Speaking of looking it up, you're right, it isn't "lucky", it's loser. Loser is a pretty slow song but love that solo.
