View Full Version : My current system
Mike Gibson 12-28-2007, 07:50 PM As many know I've had a C-26 & MC-2505 since 1971 and love them still. However, I was able to spend 8 months in New Orleans working for my former employer.
I managed to save most of my food money and used it to update my system
I would have never been able to to do this without things working out as they did. I'm grateful to Mark B and Scott W for picking up some of it and hanging on to it until I returned from La.
I think the only change I may make is a C-220 someday and maybe a MCD-201 to replace the Sony. Although the Sony is no slouch. :)
Here is the link to the slideshow.

looks great Mike. Looks like brand new stuff.
masterlu 12-28-2007, 08:05 PM Fuzzer, I like that name.
It reminds me of a TV I once had... ;)
P.S. Nice Gear too!
skippy_ps 12-28-2007, 08:09 PM Very nice Mike - I like that pre amp. :thmbsp: Not that the rest of it isn't pretty cool too.

How'd you do that:)? The food's great here. Audio Resources in Metarie is now a Mcintosh dealer. Did you get to visit there? Congradulations on the new gear.
Mike Gibson 12-28-2007, 09:29 PM Kevin, I said most of my money :) I had many a good meal there. My favorite lunch was a Po-Boy from Zimmer's just off of Mirabeau Av. I stayed at The Marriott residence Inn in Metairie. They had a sort of supper 4 nights a week.
I didn't get a chance to visit any of the HiFi stores. I worked 12-14 hrs a day 6-7 days a week and all the stores were closed on the Sunday's I had off.
dj_AmTraX 12-28-2007, 10:30 PM I like your set-up. How does the MCD205 compares to the Sony? That is a very nice Sony CDP.
Mike Gibson 12-28-2007, 10:41 PM The 205 just has more of everything than the Sony. Sound stage, imaging, the over all sound is more live music sounding. I'm not much on audio terminology as you can tell. :) Neither it or the Sony are fatiguing in the least to listen to at length.
Neal (Frogtoes here) made the new wooden panels for me. They are stunning up close.
Mark B 12-29-2007, 01:03 AM Sweet setup Mike! Looking forward to my next visit.
modge 12-29-2007, 11:27 AM Great looking set up there Mike. Hope you had a great Christmas.
thunderroad 12-29-2007, 07:41 PM Great looking gear there, Mike! :thmbsp: Congradulations on the new Mc gear. I'm considering some Mc upgrades myself. What are those speakers in the photos?
Also, thanks for the photos of the hydro plant too. Got any of the turbine/generator sets? I love that stuff! I've spent a large part of my career starting up and performance testing alot of those. My meal money has bought a lot of hifi too! The biggest hydro I ever worked in was the 1200 Mwatt Helms Pumped Storage Plant. That was a good job! Lots of challenges! I've also worked in fossil-fueled steam, nuclear, and geothermal plants as well. I bet we could have some good conversation over some cold ones, plus a little Wild Turkey! :D Breakfast of Champions!
Mike Gibson 12-29-2007, 07:51 PM Thunderroad, those are Altec Valencias I bought new in 1966. The cabinets are beat so I've been looking for replacement cabinets. Ballylongford has some cabinets in the Bay area for sale but I have no way to get them here.
I worked at several plants. From little 240MW plants in the valley to larger 2200 MW plants on the Columbia River.
If found a bourbon I can drink straight. It's called American Honey. It's Wild Turkey and honey. I'm not much of a drinker but I can sip that stuff.
If you ever get up this way give me a shout. I live about 13 miles south of The Dalles which is on I-84 about 90 miles east of P-Town.
markc2 12-29-2007, 08:14 PM somehow I can see this place around 1 AM in the morning, with good tunes, and the world in a much better perspective.:smoke:
CarlV 12-30-2007, 11:35 PM Congrats on your setup Mike. Those pictures are great, nice and warm, lotsa class. :)
Carl
Mike Gibson 12-31-2007, 09:38 PM Thank you for the kind words Carl. I appreciate them.
Nice setup. Beautiful photos.
Eating cheap in New Orleans is a very difficult thing. The food there is very good and can also be expensive. I can remember some 1K+ evenings for a party of 4.
