As I sit here this New Years Eve, chugging bottle after bottle of Red Stripe Jamaican Lager while the wife watches her Harry Potter "HD" DVD's on her new (courtesy of Santa) HD-DVD player, just wondering what your favorite style of reels are for your reel to reel decks. Here are some from my collection. My faves are the Maxell double M reels and the Scotch "Classic" reels. And yes, I'm already well on my way to getting lit for the evening. But don't feel like being out on the road anywhere. So we're going to sit here to-night.

DL you mentioned it in another thread about the mesmerizing effects of the Double M Maxell. That is most of my collection and I really like that wheel. All but a couple of the rest that you show are not symmetric which causes a hitch in their giddy-up while watching them.
I sure am glad the RtR is behind me most of the time.

Top row third from the right. Classic, sturdy and most importantly - hypnotically balanced.

The Maxell double-M's, for sure. A classic both in style and appearance. :thmbsp:

I like 3M's gold 996 reels, and Quantegy's red two windage hole GP9 reels. :)

Hi,
In 7" reels I love the Pioneer and Double M Maxell reels!
In 10.5" reels I love Scotch Classic, 3M 996, and Double M Maxell Reels. TDK reels also look good too.
In 14" reels I love Scully reels!

Middle row, #1 on the left and #1 on the far right.
No logo's, clean brushed aluminum. Tré classy!

For 10" reels I like the 3M 996 and technics reels the best.
For 7" reels I like the old Scotch, Sony and the generic metal reel in the pics I've attached. Since my uncle worked at 3M for many years my dad has a lot of Scotch and 3M stuff.

10.5"....hands down, to me, the Maxell "Double M". It's just a classic.

How about these:
L2R - Sony, Pioneer (10" or 7") and a modified Technics (powdercoared in gold)

Yes, I like the big Scotches or anything I can easily fit my stubby fingers into when having to thread.

The 3M precisions are my favorite, they have nice hubs too. I had a nice set of Ampex reels with Studer aluminum hubs, looked real nice. All sold now.

Glad to finally be able to add some reels to the wide variety that have already been shown.
These were included in some gear picked up over the weekend. 5 Revox and
a Teac in black. The others are all various brands in basic silver.

And no the sock is not mine but one of my cats.
Guess I should start looking for a Revox.
