I am now fully engrossed with Pioneer Silver face stuff and was looking at pieces like the SG-9800 EQ, SR-303 Reverb amplifier, and RG-2 dynamic expander.

Anyone have any of these and think that they are useful pieces?

The RG-1 and RG-2, some folk claim are good for record playback, however the DBX units are more advanced and a bit better, especially the III series.

They "restore" some of the dynamic range of the record. Fun. I've got one, but it sees minimal use.

The RG-2 has a failure issue with the "on" button so if you get one, be sure it's power switch works. The part is not easily sourced or found.

The reverb amplifier is a fun toy. But that's all it really is- a toy. If you're collecting, it's something neat to have. As for listening to music, it will, in my prediction, get used for the first couple of weeks, then sit idle most of it's remaining life, as the novelty wears off. Sansui makes 'em too- they're fun. But just an adult audio toy.

I do not have a reverb.

Fun to play with.

The SG-9800 EQ is a nice piece.... 12 band, lighted sliders, etc etc.... I have the SG-9 which was the same EQ except in champagne color. Would like to find a non-functioning SG9800 so I could use the silver face...

Here's the specs on your SG9800

I have the reverb and expander and am looking for a 9800 or 9500 eq. I do not use them that much but they are fun to use once in awhile and of course they look so damn good and the lights. You can sometimes get them reasonably. Delihaus mentioned the switch but I believe they can be had at one of these here parts places- or the auction site. Still a mess but here is the 202 and 303

I agree with the earlier post that the DBX units do a better job than the RG-1 or RG-2, but if you have an all vintage Pioneer system, they are nice to have.

I run a RG-2 in my garage system and it does a pretty good job.

I've got a SR303 that I just got hooked up yesterday.. I know some say they are a toy, or something to play with, but if you can get them set right, and use it to just add some depth to the music, it can make your room sound a lot bigger, and more a live sound.

I'm really happy I finally got mine hooked up.. it sure did add a lot.. especially while watching movies.
