View Full Version : Make up my mind. Your Opinion Please
similost 01-11-2008, 12:51 PM Now that I have finally gotten my "Dream Speakers" I am trying to decide if I should sell my Kenwood MV-9D speakers. I am having a really hard time deciding this, because I have enjoyed them a lot, love the sound and looks, and they are a pretty rare pair.
Trying to decide if I should keep them incase I ever want to listen to them, or need to take a pair somewhere to provide sound, or just let go, and let someone else enjoy them. I know now that I have my Altecs, there is no way I will need to go back, other than for nostalgia reasons.
Let me know the reason you think I should hang onto them, or I should let them go.
Thanks!!!!
In case you haven't seen them:

similost 01-11-2008, 01:26 PM mmm... 50/50... I'm still torn...
Redboy 01-11-2008, 01:33 PM Nostalgia's not going to cut it in the long haul. After all, you'll only listen to one pair of speakers at a time, and the ones you've got around aren't exactly conducive to quick change in the system. Take some nice pictures, then take your time selling them for top dollar. Then spend your speaker money on some great music.
That's what I'd do. I've sold dozens of pairs of speakers, and only regret one sale so far.
240sx4u 01-11-2008, 01:39 PM Sit them in the corner for a few months, if you still have no desire to listen to them its time for them to go.
Redboy hits the nail on the head, and they are not easy to hide/store I imagine LOL

similost 01-11-2008, 01:44 PM I like the idea of music money.. :scratch2:
I also like the idea of letting them sit a little before making up my mind.
Also a very good point it sure isn't easy to swap out speakers in my system. I do have space to store them though, so that isn't an issue.
I will say though, this is the only pair of speakers I've had that I feel I would have any regrets about selling, and that is what is making it hard to make up my mind. I would have no regrets about the Altecs, because there is no way selling them would be considered..
KeninDC 01-11-2008, 01:48 PM I'd sell them, but I'm in a get rid of stuff I'm not using mood.
Buy more LPs.
similost 01-11-2008, 01:56 PM Cool.. start throwing some of your albums my way then Ken.. I'm always buying that... but I am in a BIG tossing out mode as soon as I finish getting my paypal set up this weekend.
spartanmanor 01-11-2008, 02:00 PM Move them along, says the packrat.
rickr15 01-11-2008, 02:00 PM They are kind of unique. I think yours are the only ones I've ever seen.
chewy 01-11-2008, 02:06 PM sell 'em. use the $ elsewhere. as Redboy said, you can only listen to one pair at a time. Enjoy the Altecs!
ozmoid 01-11-2008, 02:15 PM I will say though, this is the only pair of speakers I've had that I feel I would have any regrets about selling, ...
With that comment in mind, let them sit a while before they go out the door. :smoke: Once those are gone, you're going to have a hell of a time finding another set if you change your mind.
KingBubba 01-11-2008, 02:30 PM You could always give them to SA or GW so they can sell them for $20 for the pair. :D
Redboy 01-11-2008, 02:33 PM I looked at those pictures again... Man, those things are huge! Have you given any thought to how much bigger your room would be if you invested in some Bose cubes?

ROTF.. come on.. I can't give in to the wife.. that's why I keep getting bigger and bigger speakers. Now short of a Marshall stack, I think I've peaked with the new A7s
These speakers weight right at about 100lbs.. They are big.. about 27" across, I'm thinking 18" deep, and can't remember how tall.. I'm thinking 33" ?
Anyway, they really are pretty rare, they do sound really great, especially when used as I have with subs, and they do take a lot of power and stay nice and clean sounding. Something that's hard to find in a good all aound PA style speaker that is nice enough to put in the house.. Part of what's making the decision hard.. I wished they would have sounded like crap, because there would be no decision to make..
I sure could use more money to appease the wife over what I just spent..
Tom Brennan 01-11-2008, 03:48 PM I'd say unless set them up in a second system get rid of them. I have 4 sets of nice speakers but I also have 4 hi-fis; what you don't use is of no use. Gee, that has a ring to it.
similost 01-11-2008, 03:53 PM hahaha.. yeah.. I'm sure there is a reason Tom.. but being as they were only made for Military exchange sales, doesn't mean they aren't good.. Lots of companies made stuff like that....
I will admit though, sitting there yesterday A/B ing them... um.. yeah.. BIG difference.. but then I think you will find that with anything you try and compair to a nice pair of Altecs... like grapefruits and pomegranates
TOO LOUD??? 01-11-2008, 07:37 PM I say keep em but then again I collect speakers. I have 3 systems set up but have 21 pairs of speakers (6 pair in the living room 2 systems, 2 pair in the bedroom, the rest stashed here and there around the house.
macaltec 01-13-2008, 12:31 PM I went through alot of speakers when I first got into this hobby. When I finally got to the A7's and Cornwalls I pretty much became dissatisfied with listening to anything else. Given that logic, why is my house still full of speakers I will never use?????? Sell em.
Gohan 01-21-2008, 01:53 PM Sell them if you are not going to use them
Njord Noatun 01-21-2008, 02:20 PM Seeing as you are married and assuming you want to maintain status quo in that department, I would get rid of them for the purpose of adding to your WAF brownie point balance (or reducing the negative balance, as the case might be). :D
Squidward 01-21-2008, 02:49 PM I've been getting rid of unused things, and it's cathartic. Get some space and money back.
pioneervato 01-21-2008, 04:09 PM If you really could use the money for other gear then get rid of them. Just don't make a rash decision. If they hold a lot of sentimental value then keep them. You can always get rid of them later.
