Hi all,
Don't know if anybody really knows the answer to this but here goes. Does anybody have a sense of just how much channel separation in the amp/preamp combination is truly needed? I know modern SS stuff can quote up to 100 dB separation in many cases but my sense is that's just another parameter of spec wars, way beyond diminishing returns.
For example, at 20 dB channel sep, the crosstalk from one channel to the other is 1/100th watts (at 1 watt nominal output). Thus, a speaker would be ouputting 1 watt from its channel mixed with 1/100 watt from the other channel. I can't believe anybody can hear that! (but am certainly willing to be proven wrong) I also find it hard to believe that such small crosstalk can have any real impact on the imagining.
Has anybody ever played around with this or have a sense of just how much crosstalk is too much as a practical matter?
Thanks!
Jeff
