Hello,
I received a Luxman RV-371 and in the process of repair.
My (nice) repair guy gave me the parts # I need for the repairs: Output Transistors.
A1492 Quantity 3 Equivalent NTE2329
C3856 Quantity 3 Equivalent NTE2328
Questions:
Provided I received the information correctly (Not my forte)
1. Can someone tell me where I can get the following parts without a backorder? I want to get them asap.
Tried:
http://www.bdent.com/ and http://www.circuitspecialists.com
Thanks
Nicholas

Post #29. Uses the same type of TO-3P(N) transistors.

Thanks for you response. Request some specifics since I’m a total newbie. I looked at the link but still have specific questions. A little more help and I should be on my way. Appreciate your patience. Trying my best to help this along.
What are the Toshiba equivalents so I know which one to substitute?
Toshiba Equivalent: (see DK# below) ??? for A1492 Quantity 3 Equivalent NTE2329?
Toshiba Equivalent: (see DK# below) ??? for C3856 Quantity 3 Equivalent NTE2328?
DK Information about the parts:
2sa1962
Which do I need to order?
DK shows In Stock for 2SA1962-OQ-ND
DK shows *Non-stock* 2SA1962-O-ND
2SC5242

2SA1962-OQ-ND
2SC5242-OQ-ND
The other number is a RoHS replacement, which is currently only available as a bulk quantity special order.
These are not 'equivalents', they are simply parts that will do the job (and very likely better than the originals, and certainly better than any NTE part).

Use 2SA1962-OQ-ND to replace A1492/NTE2329?
Use 2SC5242-OQ-ND to replace C3856/NTE2328?
Thanks

All Japanese bipolar transistors are labeled '2SA' or '2SB' for PNP devices, and '2SC' or '2SD' for NPN devices. Sometimes the '2S' part of the part number is left off the actual device marking, but is always assumed.
So yes, of course you have to replace a PNP device with another PNP device, and a NPN with another NPN.

How would TIP35C (NPN) and TIP36C (PNP) work for this? The amp rating is very high, 25 Amps, but the voltage rating, 100v, is less. These are very hefty TO-3P devices.

Wrong form-factor, dog-slow, and nearly 1/2 of the original Vceo rating.

EchoWars,
Thanks for hanging in there with me.

NTE stands for "Never Technically Equivalent".

Darn! They were real fast in the custom electronic R/C car speed controls I used to build. I still have 6 or 8 of each.

It's the 100V Vceo that concerns me (makes them appropriate for a 75WPC amp into 8 ohms), and the mounting would be tricky. No reason not to use the Toshiba transistors, which are the same case style as the originals, and rated at 250V Vceo.
