are wondering what the hell is goin on??
i thought it was just me :scratch2: but nooooo

wonder if mass will have a quake in the near future:scratch2:
Make sure everything is secured and ride it out. There are actually quite a few earthquakes in the north east each year. It's just that most people don't notice them. The USGA actually has a place where you can report earthquakes here. (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/eqcenter/dyfi.php)

damnit...so I leave NH and
-there's a white christmas SEASON
-they start getting more earthquakes.
Man, I got shafted. As usual.
Being as close to the NMSZ as I am, I haven't felt a thing. Figures.
(Don't mind me. I'm a self-proclaimed earthquake GEEK.)

We were in the South Bay for the Loma Prieta earthquake in 1989. I didn't particularly enjoy it. At all.

What is a theme in 'Neal's Fandango' by The Doobie Brothers?
I'll take obscure music lyrics for 200, Alex.

(Don't mind me. I'm a self-proclaimed earthquake GEEK.)Earthquake geek? Who, me? My MS thesis in Geophysics from Virginia Tech was about Eastern US earthquakes. I have never felt an earthquake either, even though I'm not too far from New Madrid on the other side now. My daughter, however, experienced that 5.9 (IIRC) quake in the Bay Area last fall. She's studying structural engineering at Stanford - which obviously has an emphasis on seismic mitigation - so it was a meaningful experience. BTW, PG: I grew up in Tuscaloosa. Roll Tide!
Loma Prieta was the serious earthquake in 1989 that flattened various bridges, elevated highways, apartment buildings and townhouses in and around San Francisco. It even postponed the World Series!

According to this map: http://www.ldeo.columbia.edu/LCSN/recenteqs/Maps/71-42.html there have been no earthquakes in your area in the past six months.
Since this is an audio forum, perhaps a neighbor you haven't spoken with got a new subwoofer? Just a thought...:scratch2:

Only one I ever experienced was in Quebec's South Shore, by the Richelkieu River back in the late 30s or early 40s.

Memphis is fairly "active". Buddy of mine moved there & said the 1st couple were quite unnerving, after that, you sort of got used to them.

If houses in your neighborhood are shaking and there is no seismic activity reported, I would be a little worried.

Typically, where I live, when we get shaking like that, it's from artillery at Fort Devens -- "Dress rehearsal for the end of the world" as gearhead-humorist Dick O'Kane would say.
Any active military (or construction involving explosives) around your neck of the woods, Jimi?

i mean up in your area last year you guys had a quake some where round the route 2 area of 95.
to me its really weird- it starts off kinda slow- you feel it first then all of a sudden the whole house will shake for a good few mins- i really dont get it at all

There is a fault under Littleton Common, a few miles from us. Yes, we do get little quakes here, and we have felt them several times. After living in CA for a while, we know exactly how they feel... even tiny ones.
Dunno what you've got going there...

I am about 20 miles from Reelfoot Lake in Northwest Tennessee. It was formed in 1811-1812 by an earthquake that caused the upheaving of the ground that caused the Mississippi River to flow BACKWARDS!! It was reported to have caused church bells to ring in Boston,Mass. Hope it dosent happen again in my lifetime.
"The New Madrid Seismic zone lies within the central Mississippi Valley, extending from northeast Arkansas, through southeast Missouri, western Tennessee, western Kentucky to southern Illinois. Historically, this area has been the site of some of the largest earthquakes in North America. Between 1811 and 1812, 4 catastrophic earthquakes, with magnitude estimates greater than 7.0, occurred during a 3-month period. Hundreds of aftershocks followed over a period of several years. The largest earthquakes to have occurred since then were on January 4, 1843 and October 31, 1895 with magnitude estimates of 6.0 and 6.2 respectively. In addition to these events, seven events of magnitude >= 5.0 have occurred in the area. Instruments were installed in and around this area in 1974 to closely monitor seismic activity. Since then, more than 4000 earthquakes have been located, most of which are too small to be felt. On average one earthquake per year will be large enough to be felt in the area. "

Ummm.... This may not be an earthquake at all. According to the USGS there have been no earthquakes recorded in the Northeast for the past week. So if your house has been shaking durring that period, then something very serious could be taking place underneath your house (such as a sink-hole that is forming, underneath you, or an old mine-shaft that is collopsing or a hillside that is sliding, or something). Even in california, they don't have earthquakes that are actually felt as frequently as you report.
We get tons of minor earhquake in Washington, but few are big enough to be felt. But the USGS reports them all. So if they are unawre of your little earthquakes, I'd be concerned.
