I can't tell if it has any real value yet.

I am and actually is good. I have the free version, not sure if I would pay for the "premium" or however they call the paid membership.

it's basically a "career networking" website

I'm in it but only look at the site when I get a new "link" invitation from a current or former collegue. I can see relationships / "degrees of separation" between co-workers, former co-workers, and generally stay in touch. It seems more for career and professional social networks than other social networking sites I've seen. It seems like a way to get the word out when job hunting.
Last year my old boss used it (and evite.com) to track down people and organize a 20 year reunion get together for a small tech company he founded. It seems like it's been around awhile and is entrenched.

I've been in it for several years. It does help to stay in touch with former co-workers who are no longer in the area, or no longer "close".

I signed up some time ago and don't really use it. But I do still get updates from colleagues and former co-workers. I just read an article on it. It was highly praised, especially for professional networking. In Silicon Valley that's a highly valueable asset and indespensible tool.
It's true a lot of the times that "it's who you know" that will get you ahead.

It looks like one of those things that people sign up for but only a few use alot. I signed up, and have a couple of links, but I rarely spend any time at it.

I find the people that really work it to invite people and build a long list of of networked friends on LinkedIn - these are the people that change jobs a lot and were not that successful when I worked with them. Not all, just a general observation.

I've yet to respond as the invites I've gotten are not from those I want any relationship with.
Ones I do are on my mobile and they have me.
