I have to admire people that give great advice at the possible loss of some business (just like Terry). Nakdoc generously shared some great info on fixing a nice RX-505 I got on sleazebay for a good price. Surprisingly enough, not only was the description completely accurate, it came well packed and in great shape. I had ordered belts & idler tire for it, assuming it would need it, but sure enough, just as Nakdoc predicted..it didn't need them! A few hours studying the SM and then 2 hours with some cleaners, compressed air, phonolube and pencil PTFE lube and it works like a champ. It'll reverse to the other side of a tape, play to play in less than a second. Too cool.
I had accidentally ordered an extra idler tire, so I'll be sending it to Nakdoc as a thanks. :thmbsp: All I have to do is cal the tapes I use to it and make sure it records as well as it plays!
Speaking of the RX-505 and similar Naks, why is there separate buttons for tape type (I, II, IV) AND EQ (70, 120). I can obviously hear the the EQ difference, but hear no difference switching tape types. Every other tape deck I've owned or used, switched the EQ along WITH the tape type..ie: Type II is always 70us. Why would you ever mix them up?
