Just listened to the news, The last coal pit in Wales closed today:tears: Perhaps not a important piece of news for the rest of the world, but the Welsh have allways been proud of there mining industry. I wish them good luck for the future. A sad day.

Modge, are you living in the UK now? Your profile doesn't say. Just curious. I've been to Wales too. It's sad that many people have lost their jobs. The same thing is happening in the States. Michigan has the worst economy in the US.

No, but we did ride the canal in one of their large boats. A most impressive system. I remember a particular stretch that took us over a valley much like a bridge would do for a car. Excellent experience.

I heard a very nice story about this on the BBC over here on the World Service this morning, complete with poetry reading. A very sad day. I do hope that most of the displaced miners get new jobs at the other mines that are opening, however.
