First, let me say that I don't post a whole lot (cuz I figure most of you know much more than I), But I have learned a lot from reading and searching on this forum, what a great resource and group.
Anyway, I have a really nice Sherwood S-7800 that I really like (great tuner!). Ever since I got it about a year ago it has had a slight hum that you notice at low volume. When the volume is increased it isn't as noticeable. While replacing a dial light tonight on it I noticed that there is a vibration that corresponds with the hum, kinda like a 60 cycle thing. I looked further and discovered it was coming from the biggest cap in the unit--the big yellow metal can that is laying horizontally toward the front of the case. I have the service manual and it says it is a 2500 uf 80v cap. I could actually feel this thing vibrating in time with the hum. Is this an easy part to replace or find? It looks easy enough--just two wires, one in and one out. I'd like to stop this from humming. BTW is this the "filter cap"? What would be a good replacement? TIA, Scott

Can you post a picture of the big yellow cap.Usually caps don't vibrate but transformers do.:scratch2:

It's listed in the service manual as a cap. There is a separate section of transformers. A transformer wouldn't have the uf and volt measurements like this, would it?

I've come to the conclusion that it is a filter cap. Any good resources for these?
