Hello to all you Sansui enthusiasts. My question is this. Lets say you have (2) BA-3000 power amps and (1) BA-2000 amp. What would be the best way to configure these amps to speakers with 2 sets of binding posts each? My thoughts are to switch the BA3ks to mono-block and wire each one to the bass section of the speakers. Then, wire the BA2k to the mids/highs of each speaker. The pre-amp is a CA-3000, and the speakers are Polk Rti A9.

Is this an optimal plan or am I missing something? Will this work without an active or passive crossover system? What other options are there utilizing all 3 power amps. Any input is appreciated.

I guess I don't understand, I'm not familiar with those Polk's, but your B3k's will put out a conservative 170 watts per channel, why would you want to supply that much power? Thinking of putting the Polk's out of your misery?
Seems to me you'd be better off just running one of those amps to the set of speakers, less induced noise and simpler hookup.
Most I ever see used is about 10 watts to rattle the windows....

BHamm Got more amps than you can use eh, get more speakers and more room. Or send them my way. :D

You can bi-amp, separate the mid-high and woofer sections if ya want without an in-line crossover, letting the speaker x-over do the x-overing..unless I'm mistaken. The downloadable manual (http://www.polkaudio.com/downloads/manuals/home/RTi_A1_A3_A5_A7_A9_MN.pdf) shows it but doesn't mention external crossovers.

The amplifiers are overkill, but I would run the highs with the BA-2000 and the lows with BA-3000..only so I could control them separately without having to use an equalizer, just be careful. YMMV

Thanks for your input. Looks like you're not doing so bad in the amp department either ;)

With both the BA-3000s switched to mono and each serving one speakers bass section, then it seems to me together they are acting like one big two channel amp. Then the BA-2000, which can't be switched to mono, will supply the mids and highs of each speaker.

Has anyone tried this? Will there be a problem tuning the volume of the bass drivers driven by one amp, and the mids/highs driven by a separate and smaller amp. Will I be able to compensate for the variance, if there is one, by adjusting the input level controls on each amp?

I haven't actually tried this yet and wanted input from knowledgeable people. If this is a waste of time, I hope to find out now.

Yes, that's how it works, but, and this is a BIG butt ()(), you need a different speaker setup to run all them amps, you're going to kill them Polks like Casey said. Do the math and good luck. :thmbsp:
