I picked up three of these yesterday and just got the first one up and running.

I gotta tell you, this amp sounds fantastic. A lot of balls for a 32 watt amp, amazing imaging and very neutral.

I'm a vacuum tube junkie, but I also give credit where credit is due. It sounds good enough that I'm going to use it on my bench and retire my Pilot 240 for a while.

I see they go for less than 100 on eBay, but I wouldn't sell the other two for that.

Terrific build quality too. I think I counted nine fuses in it. Here's a little tip- there's two 3.5 amp fuses per channel accessible after the bottom plate is removed and if they're blown, the amp still functions, but sound is distorted. If you see one that has distorted sound, check these fuses.

Cheers

Hi Lee
If you (or other Sansui People) donīt know already.

Those 3.5A fuses are for protection and they are not of ordinary type as slow or fast. They are extremely quick to blow and called QA standing for Quick Acting Fuse.

Donīt replace them with ordinary fuses.

Stene:

Very good advice, Stene. I wasn't aware of that. I will re-check all my protection fuses.

So the AU-999 I bought and serviced shouldn't have had a 'glow' on the driver board, huh? :D

What happened is that while I was adjusting the drive current I connected my DMM and flipped the power switch only to be greeted by a sudden 'flash' and glow on the board. I panicked, hit the power and checked the board - that last owner had replaced one of these QA fuses with a fuse-style dial lamp!!!!

(still my heart - thump - thump - thump)

Hi Paul
I believe youīre not alone not be aware that the Fuses are of another kind than ordinaries. Those QA Fuses cut off the Voltage to Driver and Power Transistors in almost all older Sansui Amps.

There have also been changes for the values of the Fuses. A Bulletin about that can be found at http://gallery.bcentral.com/Gallery/ProductListing.aspx?GID=4884061&Dept=304280

If you have difficulties to find such a Fuses go to www.woodang.net

Hey Stene
Would the G-22000 receiver/amp have the same type of fuses? If so I may have a problem :(

Hi Sten

Thanks for the important tip!

I'll read the bulletins and contact Woodang for fuses.

You wouldn't happen to know where i can get a schematic for this unit, would you?

Cheers!
