Grabbed a good Kyocera DA-310cx CD player today. Nice vintage unit, gold-plated RCA jacks, metal champagne face with solid rosewood cabinet ends. Even had the original remote.

I've seen some discussion of these in the past, just wondering if anyone has more input. Seems like a quality unit. The internal headphone amp is of considerable power--it drove my AKG electrostats with no trouble at all.

Good warm sound. Any thoughts on how this would stack up against the BPC-type CDPs I'm using now?

I have had a couple of those and it's most likely a keeper.
The 310 is the entry level model but still very well made, as you are obviously aware. They used Burr Brown opamps and were quite pricey back in the day.

I used my 310 in the bedroom system for quite a while and only replaced it because I installed a DVD player up there. As you know, modern DVD players do have quite nice sound and for the use it gets up there, is perfectly acceptable. But the build quality of the Kyocera should trounce modern throw away DVDs, as does the looks. That champagne styling certainly is quite elegant and suitable for front row presentation.

I've got a 610 in storage that I probably should give a listen to myself. All in all, it's probably a step up over whatever run of the mill BPC you have now.

Is that the model with the digital out? It should make a fine transport.

I had a 410 for a while. Nice, heavy, smooth sounding player. Looked great, and the display was very cool.

Nice grab, John.

I had a 710cx that I used for quite awhile....started skipping and I fixed it with a friend's knowledge and occiliscope and then sold it. The tracking had gone off. Very nice looking and fairly high quality. It was MSRP of $800 back in it's day.

Had a Kyocera system with that particulr cd player in our master bedroom for a while. Very fine pieces although we ended up giving it to our son. CD player is a good one. On mine I occasionally had trouble with cd-r's skipping. Don't know if it was problem with mine or all in general.

Nope, no digital out. But I did hook it up and will be giving it a listen tomorrow or later tonight.

Hey, John, I just picked one of these up at an estate sale for $7 the other day. No remote, though, but there was the original manual and sales receipt. It is built like a battleship and has great style. I'd be happy to scan the manual if you'd like to have it.

I've heard about that. Guess I'll have to pop the top...
