My local classical music station has been playing music by a composer by the name of Gabriel Faure. I was so enchanted by the music that I had to google the composer since I did not know anything about him. Any recommendation?

I'm hardly a Faure expert, but I like his piano quartets.

Faure's Pavanne is one of the most beautiful classical pieces out there, period. Check it out, when you are in a quiet, contemplative mood, and just LISTEN to it off a good recording, through a good system. Don't do other stuff with it as background music; just sit down, close your eyes and LISTEN to it. Otherwise you might miss the magic. Pure magic, especially late at night. :thmbsp:

That is the first composition that comes to my mind when someone mentions Gabriel Faure.
I agree with Arkay - it is beautiful. :music:
One of my favorite classical pieces.

Heck, almost anything he compsed is well worth a listen, Maques et Bergemasques, the Dolly Suite, in addition to the others mentioned.

I would have to add a vote for his Requiem. Also check out www.classical.net for additional recommendations.

Thank you all. I am really grateful to my fm station WQXR 88.3khz for introducing me to the wider world of classic: more than the usual Mozart, Beethoven etc. Now I am enthused about Kornberg, Resphigi, Copland and I have a better idea of what is not my cup of tea.

I have none of his music - after reading this thread, I am now motivated to get some.

I lied. I do know this guy. I sampled Pavanne on Amazon.com and I checked some of my older CD's -I have this track on a CD of collectable classics. His music is truly beautiful. It's just that I have no CD's strictly Faurre. This will now change.

Another vote for Faure's Requiem. A drop-dead gorgeous piece of music.
