goraman 02-06-2008, 10:38 PM JVC XL-V251 CDP score on a nice single drawer.$20.00 I don't know much about the DAC in this thing but I took my SR 80 Grados out of the car put on a CD and it sounded very good, well worth a twenty spot.made in OCT of 1992 so it's not the latest tecnology but it must have been a winner back in it's day because it sounds as good as some newer Denons I've heard. Anyone ever have one of these?
Juniperlater 02-06-2008, 10:42 PM Is this the dark-silver style JVC? I have an RX-309 receiver and remember drooling over this player after I bought the receiver (granted I was 14). Then my parents bought the matching 5 disc - I was in heaven. Now that CDP is in heaven. The 5 disc was built like crap. Like I said, I still have the receiver and think it was a pretty good $175 spent (in 1994).
chillwolf 02-06-2008, 10:43 PM That's nice! Your GW store is expensive, CDPs go for about $4.95 in our local store.

The 5 drawer was there to but it looked poorly made. This single drawer was built for war and made in Singapor. Not Japan sorry to say.
OvenMaster 02-06-2008, 11:46 PM I've read consistently good reviews of those later JVCs. There's one on that auction site right now going for $20 plus $18 shipping, so already you're ahead. :thmbsp:
Nice catch

clydeselsor 02-06-2008, 11:52 PM Picked up a JVC XL-V411 last week at GW. Back label reads Made in Japan 1989. This cdp looks almost like new and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised about the sound. I bought it for $7.00 and it even had the remote!

If I had it to do over again, I would have asked my parents for the single disc. OR... bought one of the many I saw over the years at the swap meet. But truth be told, I haven't been using the JVC receiver too often these days. Marantz in every sound station makes the JVC stuff harder to want to keep out.
arrow 68 02-07-2008, 12:11 AM I have seen 4 of those in the last week. Now I did see a Sony CDP 590 today. Don't see them very often. But this stuff is not high enough on the food chain. But I guess if you need a CDP. :scratch2:
goraman 02-07-2008, 12:20 AM not high end by any means but it dose sound pretty darn good,It will work just fine in my office.
goraman 02-07-2008, 12:44 AM tHERE WAS JUST SOMETHING COOL ABOUT IT .I'm not a big Sony or JVC guy, there was just something kinda cool about it and I wanted to hear it.
It's not my Music Hall 2.25 but it wasent $600.00+ and I can midfi it up at work for cheap.

I got a -190, which I use about once every 3 months......it plays. That's all I ask of it, because sometime there is a CD that I just HAVE to hear....

Cd players are usually about $15-$30 here.
wiredbecker 02-07-2008, 01:32 AM CDPs are $10 to $30 here.
goraman 02-07-2008, 01:51 AM everything in our goodwills is 25 to 35 bucks records are 2 or more. The rent is high here and buisnesses just dont make it when $15,000,00 to 20,000,00 is the average months rent in a good shopping center stripmall.Roseville is high priced, not as bad as SanFransicko per sq.FT. but no bargan, that's for sure.
goraman 02-07-2008, 01:55 AM There is a very upscale Yamaha TT in there right now ,the power cord has been clipped off and the headshell is missing but it must have been high end in 1979 or so.I just don't need it.turntables go for 8 bucks sometimes 10.
Unican_Eric 02-07-2008, 08:48 AM I have had 3 JVC players from this line. The single played anything it could get its hands on. Excellent player.
I had the 6 disc cartridge with single player underneath for a total of 7 discs. The single try f***ed up all the time, discs would jam and it had to be taken apart and put back together many times. I was told by the repair place that this was a major problem and just to use the cartridge. Once I did this all was ok, I sold it anyway to a friend with the info just to use the cartridge. he was happy.
As for the 5 disc carousel I have the XL-F76. I have never had a problem in the 4 years I have owned it and its used alot. $3.99 at the local Value Village. It may look like it was built like crap but mine is like a Timex watch. It keeps on ticking. :thmbsp: Will never get rid of it.
