Do my morning music catch-up, so I thought I'd pass this (http://blog.allmusic.com/2007/12/21/allmusics-favorite-albums-of-2007/) along.

Heard of maybe... 5?

Don't know if I've actually listened to any. Any "Must hears" in your opinion?

I'll take this list, and a grain of salt, with my morning coffee.

I only own one - Band of Horses - Cease to Begin - that hasn't exactly overwhelmed me to date. In fairness though, I think I've only listened to it once. I don't think I've listened to any other LP/CDs.

My approach to Allmusic's reviews are to take "take them with a grain of salt" and search AK to get additional insight - of course there are many other sources. Between them all, there is a lot of material to research. Too bad the is never enough time or money to explore many interesting/potential artists/groups.

Live at Massey Hall (1971) is a great album if you are a fan.

Some I've heard:
Pelican - City of Echoes, great lp if you like the genre. Instrumental sludge-y rock, great builds, sometimes drone-y, which I like. I like the band alot, they are very talented musicians and songwritere imo.
Battles - Mirrored. Great band and this is a very interesting album, challenging, but in a good way.
I have the Arcade Fire and White Stripes releases, and while enjoyable to listen to, I feel they were over rated.
The Iron and Wine, Dinosaur Jr., and Winehouse lps were reviewed favorably by the sources I read, but I haven't heard them.
There's quite a few others that sound interesting. I started collecting in the early 70's and I think the last few years have produced some very good lps and bands.
A couple that weren't on the list, that I'd add:
Besnard Lakes - The Besnard Lakes are the Dark Horse. Really good rock record.
Citay - Little Kingdom. Really good rock - talented bunch of musicians
Minus the Bear - Planet of Ice. New progressive rock at it's best imo.
