I have a local Sony 6065 available for $50. Already have one. Wondering what typical resale is in case I decide to flip. Everythin wors and it has wood cabinet.

I don't know what the resale value is, but I would have paid $50 for mine in a heartbeat.

Got it! Cleaning her up. Wood case isn't as nice as one I already have. But so far the face plate seems better - mine is starting to loose some lettering.

Also has balance knob missing from mine - the little metal knob that makes it som much easier to change balance.

I may end up robbing best from both for keeper then sell the second one. :D

$50 for a unit even if not working to find parts would have been worth it, especially having a cabinet. I paid 2x that for a STR-6120 parts unit that have been partially sold off just for the dial glass. I have a 6065 and if there one locally for $50 even not working if it the case, I'd grab it as I've wanted to find a case for mine and a parts unit is all that is the way of getting one.

Save the chassis as some of the parts are next to impossible to source and finding replacement transformers, transistors, etc. will set you back a pretty penny should you need any.

This 6065 sounds very nice. Haven't tried my other 6065 with my new EPI speakers. Hooked up to the M201's and sounds very nice indeed. Different balance than from my Pioneer SX-950.

Sony sounds more mellow. Lot's of midrange. Strong bass. I'd have to do some A/B'ing to see which has "better" bass.

Lamps are out. And upon better lighting - case hase seen better days. It's presentable but somebody did a half ass repair on the top and there's a small chip off the veneer on rear bottom edge. The other case I have is cherry.

Whe I openned this one up it had nice coating of dust inside. I'll bet it hasn't been openned often if at all. The two front edge lamps are both blown. Meter light comes on and off - reflow solder?

Have to clean it up and deoxit all pots and switches. Leaving for business trip tomorrow - damn. :tears:

Yes. Plus it is always good to have a back up unit.

Wife wants to know why I need 8 back up units. :D

These Sony units are old and are not serviced by Sony so a back up is prudent. Luckily they are for the most part under the radar resulting in very affordable prices. I have two 6060Fs three 6800s but only one 7065, one 5800 and one 1120 amp. I should do something about the single pieces.

You should discuss th case with Merrylander. I'll bet he could do wonders with it.

Backup is good. I got 3 6060s but only 1 each of 6065, 6045, 6120, ST-5055, TA-1055.

My backups are not all Sony's. Have 2 6065's, a 6050 in storage, and a 6045. Rest are Sui's and Pioneer.

There is something about the Sony sound that is wonderful. I grew up with 6050. For AR's I like the Sui better. It has more oomph for that big woofer. But can be overpowering on some speakers like my EPI's.

Good suggestion wit Merrylander.

Aren't these the same cases for the 6060F? I had line on one that still hasn't materialized. I'd love to compare the 6060F sound. And then have nice cabinet for it in case it doesn't have one or is beat up.

Yes, same case. You have a line of a 6060 or case for a 6060? If a 6060, do yourself a favor and have it gone through before evaluating it against other units. This was the first Sony SS into the US and hence older than most. One of mine had a couple of caps replaced and sounds better than my other 2 but sadly the mpx board, the tech could not figure out and back off rather than dig into it.
