Stopped by a used books and records store at lunch today and found this 10", stereo, 78 rpm single blast from the past. Too cool!

I thought I knew all there is to know about records and record technology.
Never, ever have heard of a stereo 78.
Is it shellac, plastic, or vinyl?
Must sound spectacular on a dual-horn wind-up Victrola.

I am drooling with envy.

I've got about 6,000 78s and all are in MONO! Never seen one in stereo!

It's vinyl.

Radio station copy 78's were pressed on vinyl during the last decade or so of their being made. And there were a few strong selling singles released on 78 vinyl during the sixties, such as The Beatles. Then later on "Mr. Bojangles" by The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, seen here along with a Dave Edmunds 78. For some cool about these and others, go to: http://www.cool78s.com/index.html

Electronically recorded . . . that's amazing.

I can't tell you how tedious it used to be cutting those little groove modulations with a scratch awl and a magnifying glass.

There's actually one on Ebay right now with a low BIN.

That's so neat! :)
How does it sound compared to 33/45 vinyl? Does the sonic quality scale up with the RPMs?
