The wife and I went to a flea market this morning and found a stack of about ten LP's mostly old country, willie nelson, mere haggard and the like. None of them were mint, they were goodwill quality. I asked the old japanese lady how much for the stack? "800 yen each." thats like 7.50 a piece in USD. The color must have drained from my face becuase her husband (an american) asked "whats wrong with that?" I told him I was thinking closer to say $20 for the whole stack. Then I got a fifteen minute speech about the rareity of 33 1/3 vinyl and how they are all collectable becuase they dont even print 'em anymore. Needless to say I left without any vinyl. :thumbsdn:

Thanks for listening fellas, it was just very frustrating had to vent somewhere!

Anyone else have stories like this?

Pick up a copy of Stereophile, circle all the ads for places selling N E W vinyl and leave it with them.

You know that was a "steep" asking price...So you did well. I was in a store in Heidelberg Germany and they wanted 40 Euro at the time for a 2 lp set by Abba...and it was all scuffed up with a ratty cover, had it been 10 or 15 Euro then maybe but I could live without it. By the way I found the same album in Spain for 5 Euro!!!:tresbon:

That's interesting that vinyl was that expensive in Germany, I feel like vinyl is much more common in Europe in general.

It was way to steep for me.

Yeah, I've been afraid that the price is going to start climbing. Especially with the recent attention from the media.

However, It does sound like those two need a reality check.

There will always be deals. You just have to look and be ready to pounce. As always, you have to be ready to know what to walk away from, and what to run away with.

Good Idea, I am going to go back just before the market closes and see if the prices have "changed" :scratch2: I may have to bring a copy along just for laughs

I know there must be some vinyl shops around there....check around the ginzas or ask some of the local nationals. When I was in Rota, Spain ...well my friend actually was working there... we asked and they directed us towards some places that sold vinyl...That's where I found that same ABBA album along with some other stuff for cheap. The funny thing? They weren't pressed in Spain, they were pressed in Germany. When I went to Madrid and checked out the shops, they were quite reasonable...so I guess it all depends huh?...

Been keeping an eye out for some vinyl shops just haven't spotted any yet, I was up in hiroshima a few years ago and found myself the Virgin record store, An entire floor full of nothing but vinyl, I thought I had found the promised land...

Yes I remember that store! If my memory recalls me right, there's a Tower Records somewhere I think near Yokohama or Tokyo that has a whole floor of vinyl....I can't recall right cuz the last time I was in Japan was in 1996...on T.A.D. (as a civilian).... Oh if you like J-Pop...you might want to seek out a 70's group called "Finger 5" (yes a J-pop version of the Jackson 5) or "Pink Lady". LOL Their resissue cd's I hear are big sellers??
