20+ yrs ago I worked at a local Sansui dealer.... I picked up this tu-x1 which, at the time, I thought was a dinosaur or a giant door stop. It's been in my basement for 12+ yrs and I think I want to sell it:
1.) Should I have it serviced and cleaned... to my knowledge there's nothing wrong w/ it. The AM dial seems loose (when you spin it, the action is not as positive as the FM dial) + there are a few tiny scratches in the black finish.
2.) any reccomendations on who does great work on vintage Sansui tuners.
3.) Is e-bay the way to sell? I not an ebayer but I've bought on ebay before.
Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome to AK. Not sure if this thread should be in Dollars and Sense but I'll let the mods worry about that.
You may have learned that the TU-X1 is one of the holy grail tuners. There are two listed on the bay right now for over 3k each. Who knows if they'll go for that, my guess is not, but gives you an idea of what people think they are worth. You could offer the unit here, on audiogon, or on eBay. IMO eBay would probably get you the highest price but audiogon could be a good option.
A recently serviced and tuned up unit is generally more attractive to buyers (well except for bargain hunters) although "serviced" has some pretty broad interpretations in auctions these days. To the degree you can demonstrate with certainty that it is in top shape you will get more for it. The auctions that bring the lowest prices are those that say "powers up, no further testing done."
You might very well recover your service costs when you sell it. Either of the AK regulars PunkerX or dr*audio would be good choices to have this done.

I second riverrat's comments.
Another sales outlet to consider is Audiogon and you may want to consider listing here in the A/K for sale section as well.
When you put something this collectible and desirable on eBay, you'll be contacted by many kooks and scammers - I don't think you'll have as many of these timekillers bothering you if you list it on Audiogon and here.
As for the two listed in Baharain, well, there are no FM stations in Baharain. I'll let you draw you own conclusions as to the legitimacy of these two auctions.

Since you are selling it, I'd just clean it up and list it on AudiogoN. No point putting any money into it.
