Didn't a few of the console makers do it that way at first?
Yes, I have a stereo GE that required the purchase of an additional speaker.

Actually, bowtie427ss, the Motorola is a stereo console. In the center there is a 15 inch jensen and under the TT and tuner on either end there are 8 inch midrangers and tweeters. I have owned a couple of these Motorolas and they are pretty cool. The amp has 3 channels and 6 6v6s.
If this console was here in Illinois I would offer 100 bucks, and if they'd agree I'd be there. Nice console!!!

VERY early example of biamping. The center channel was simply low frequency. One of the things I was most impressed with these Motorola consoles--other than being ahead of its time--was the nice components they used. As I stated earlier, the center channel is a nice big Jensen P15. The first console I had was a P15R and the next was a P15Q: both very nice speakers!!
Motorola never made speakers themselves so they outsourced. IIRC the mids were Philips and the tweets were Jensens also. I'm not sure that they used the same drivers for all their consoles so I can't say for certain that's what this one has, but that'd be my guess.
I'll say it again. If this console was around here, I'd be all over it!!

The Belk Mansion is a very famous place and my wife work right up the street from it. Motorola did quite a bit of this biamp thing in the late 50's into the early 60's. I have worked on a few over the years. The tube ones are very popular amps to convert to Mono full range amps.

That console is a 1962 model. The Vibrasonic stereos are quite good. I had one in a Danish Modern cabinet with a 21" B/W t.v., AM-FM, and turntable.
Vibrasonic refers to the "Vibrasonic" reverb control on the amp.
