There looks to be a SX1250 on the bottom of the pile....

I called the seller last night, it sounded like everything was as described in the listing - some unknowns some functional. I figured that if I could find the 1250 in good shape, plus one or two other nice units it would be worth bargaining over.
I went over to the boatyard (Marine View drive up in Everett) this afternoon to look over the pile of gear. Nice 30-something guy. It sounded like he is helping a packrat friend dig-out before a move - he said that he kept a Sansui AU-717 for himself.
I was the first person to stop by - everyone else had been calling and asking to buy individual units.
The stuff was on several pallets, as in the pictures. For me, looking over the stuff was a disappointment but not a surprise because the SX-1250 has the faceplate and controls removed (he said he had them at home) and looked beat-up, including a cracked wood case. The Marantz that I'd spied in picture was a (5220 if memory serves) tape deck not an amp / receiver / tuner. The Nakamichi turned out to be beat-up and there was some BPC and 80's midrange receivers, a beatup looking Rotel. And there are these gigantic Altec amps - 50's or 60's vintage and a couple of big horns. These amps were a bit worse for wear too - hard to say if they were functional - I dont think I'd have an application for them, certainly not one that I'd value at 5 hundys. Can someone tell me where I'm wrong about that? I came with a pocket full of $$ prepared to bargain and take a carload, then get the truck for the rest -- but I left empty handed.
The seller understood, and he is thinking about listing the Altec stuff separately - he thinks that someone will want that stuff, he's hoping for a local person because shipping that stuff would be difficult.

Those Altec amps and horns are worth getting....
They are: Altec Lansing 1590B Altec Lansing 1590C Altec Lansing 1607A Altec Lansing 1593B Altec Lansing 1589B Altec Lansing 1650 Altec Lansing 9444A Anniversary Series 2 Altec Lansing Horns
From what I can tell in limited web search, the amps were intended for PA systems and not really much use for home audio. I couldn't use them and they would be hell-on-earth to Ebay/ship somewhere. What am I missing here? :scratch2:

Nothing your not missing a thing. You saw the junk it didn't do it for you you didn't get excited about it it would have just turned in to buyer remorse buy the time you humped that junk home.
Your little inner guy did you well.

Not a wild goose chase, it's only about 10 miles north, and it was a sunny 60' friday afternoon drive...

I'm not seeing an SX1250, but i do see an Altec 1005 multicell horn, if there's a pair of those they equal the asking price alone.
The 9444A is as good of a SS amplifier you could ever hope to put in a home system unless you have thousands to spend.
The 1250 is at the bottom of the pile in the first picture. The case was cracked/split/splintered, front plate and controls removed. There were a pair of the horns. If they were free and if I had a big garage/warehouse it might be fun to check out those big Altec amps... This is a must-take-all-$500-deal; if the guy had left the Sansui AU-717 in the pile instead of taking it for himself, I would have eyed things ALOT differently; maybe this info will be useful for another local AK'r who wants to check these out. :music:

The 1250 is at the bottom of the pile in the first picture. The case was cracked/split/splintered, front plate and controls removed. From what i can see in the pic, it looks like there are 3 meters in the front and the heatsinks are covered/enclosed. My 1250 had open/exposed heatsinks and onlytuning and signal strength meters.
Could it be a 1280?

looks more like a 1280 to me.
You could have parted out the 1280, or fixed it up. That would have been worth more than the asking price.
