If you left them and went home they are most likely gone now and will soon be seen on e-bay for a grand or so.

BTW... If I saw a pair for $50, I wouldn't even stop to check the condition of the drivers, I'd be too busy loading them up and hauling ass before anyone else had a chance to see them.. I'd throw them a franklin and screw the change because I would be in such a hurry..

OH MAN!!! that's a bum deal... they are very fine speakers.. I will never part with my Altec's... once ya have them.. you can never turn back... at least I can't..

Can't hesitate when you see big vintage speakers with big drivers for $50. $50 is a total steal.

To give you an idea how good a deal this was I have been trying to pick up a single woofer for my Valencia's which is pretty much what these were. The last single Altec 416a woofer on ebay sold in the $280's

There are reasons these huge speakers get priced sometimes at very low prices - most people (primarily wives) won't allow them in the house. They don't fit.

You could have flipped them for more money, but moving them is no small task.

You may have saved your back.

Move on and have fun with the hobby.

By the way, I love my Altecs, but I've got other speakers I like more.

I couldn't imagine being able to be in the same room trying to put 200 watts into them.. with Altec's 30 watts it pretty insanely painful loud..

Nothing wrong with heavy metal... tis what I listen to most.... and I'm not a "beer guzzling" slob who gets drunk and "cranks" it to 11 ...I push my Optimus T120's, Pioneer towers, and my HPM500's hard but nowhere near to the point of failure :)

True words. I feel your pain, but if you think it was likely you were going to flip these right away rather than enjoy them, move on and enjoy the hobby. I've been grateful for having an internet connected mobile phone more than once at Estate Sales to figure out what it is that I'm looking at.

I got lucky with a pair of Altecs at an estate sale last year. I spotted a pair of Altec Boleros (bookshelfs, nothing like these) at an estate sale, they were asking $75 on the first day. I took a chance that I could get them for less if they were still there on Sunday, and I got there in the morning and took them away for $40.

Wait a minute here..I'm a huge metal fan! OK so I do push 200 watts into my speakers while Sabbath or Priest is on the TT, and it is fun when my buddies come over with beer, and I do ride a motorcycle...Hmm, I'm not helping myself am I..?

They did not protect the wood cabinets from the metal moving dolly that they were using either.

wow did i stir up a can of worms or what?.i too listen to heavy metal so dont get me wrong theres nothing wrong with the music.i can also be a beer drinking slob who would never dream of putting 200w into those altecs while playing some good old iron maiden:rockon:as for sterotyping people i'm all against that and should of thought before i posted.fwiw i used my a19's with a ba3000 for the longest time and never blew em up'.i hope i'm wrong and those flamenco's have another 40yrs of healthy life.:yes:
