The MAC 4100 description has: "power amp in and preamp out jumpers" so you could use an external amplifier. Nothing wrong with buying more Mc gear. :)

The 4100's amp is an MC752, which is a very good direct-coupled amp. Its preamp sections should play nicely with anything, but its internal 752 is a really good amp and should serve your purposes well unless you need more power or want to run more speakers. Also, if you prefer the autoformer sound, you won't be getting it with the 4100 so you could mate the 4100's preamp to an amp with autoformers. I always thought that a Mc receiver preamp mated to a 2100 or 2105 would be a nice combo, but I prefer the OTL amps, so when I wanted to up the juice on my setup I bought two MC 754s and ran them as monoblocks off my Mac4300's preamp. You have a lot of choices, all good ones, available. Happy hunting.
