I wonder if any of you guys have any suggestion to this issue.

I have a Pioneer DVD player hooked up to a Sony bravia LCD TV's. Audio input and image is connected via HDMI. The DVD's extra audio output is connected (like if it was a CD player) to a Luxman TP 117 pre amp.

When watching a movie, I select the AV source from the Luxman where the TV audio output is connected to and the images and sound are perfectly in sync.

When I watch a DVD concert I select the V-Disc source from the Luxman that is where I have the DVD player's sound output connected directly to the pre-amp.
When doing this and watching a concert for example there is like half a second delay between the image and the sound. (basically the sound comes with a slight delay to the image). I use it only in 2 channel stereo setting, no surround mode.

Does anyone have any idea why this may be happening and how can I correct it? _ thanks in advance for your help.

The processing technology in HDTV causes the image to appear slightly after the sound so that they are out of sync. When you have audio signal coming directly from the TV, audio and video are in sync because this is already compensated for in the TV. When you have the audio coming from the DVD player to the Luxman amp, it is out of sync with the TV image. You need to either get a preamp with audio delay options or purchase an outboard audio delay. This will allow you to delay the audio signal to your amp so that it is in sync with the TV image.

Thanks for your detailed explanation Glen, it all makes much sense now. I will look into those audio delay devices.

As it seems you are very knowledgeable I have another question if you don't mind. Actually I had time to sit down and pay attention to my system today so I am finding out these little things.

I've noticed one of the needles on the Marantz was not going below the 10db mark (about 1/4 of the Vu Meter). It did move, up and down but did not go down all the way, even when the amp was off.

I thought it may be dirty inside or something. Later on the amp was off and I've noticed it went down more but not yet all the way. I rubbed my finger against the plastic cover and noticed it moved basically following my finger. Tried the other one and did the same. Could this be some static or some magnetism? What can I do to prevent this?

Thank you so much for your help.

I don't have this feature on any of my dvd players (the newest is a 2003 model), but many newer players have an audio delay setting, usually found somewhere in their set up menu that is included for exactly this scenario i.e. since flatscreens are so popular now.

Thanks RadShak. I will check on my DVD player to see if that is available.

I don't know about that one. :D

VU meter needles usually have an adjustment screw for setting to "zero." Yours may need adjustment. Maybe an expert like Echowars will chime in.

I will check on the screws, but I think I will wait to open the amp until someone can confirm if that is the case.

Thanks again Glen

What Marantz? Most have a zero adjustment screw at the needle pivot-point. Some units have a hole in the front face to allow this adjustment without disassembly...some don't.

It is a Marantz 140 Amplifier. I do not see anything on the front to allow adjustment. Would this one have anything inside?

Well, the needle is back to 0 and acting "normally" now.

So I think it may be some static or otherwise I may need to call ghost busters.
